No, it's a beeyatch. I think as long as you get in there and apply the DAY OF the race, you should be okay. But they are getting harder and harder to get in to. Good luck!!!

There are about 23 Ironman events worldwide, and most of them require you to enter some sort of lottery in order to gain entrance. Once you get in, you pretty much have the spot until you no longer want to race, as they give preference to the folks who have already raced it (ie - 2009 entry opens the day after the 2008 race, and the only slots they put online are the ones that aren't claimed in person).

You're probably right that the "Lottery" is only for Kona. Have you race and Ironman before? If not, I think you'd have a better shot at Kona if you try to qualify via a 70.3 race or a full Ironman elsewhere. I'm not sure how many slots they open for Kona via lottery, but I can't imagine it's very many...

I haven't done an Ironman yet. I'm planning on 70.3 next summer. If you are selected for Kona lottery, the only way you can race is if you complete a 70.3 anyway, so, either way it needs to be done.

In this book I read, 'Becoming an Ironman', people tell their race stories - and quite a few stated they waited years to be selected for lottery at Kona.

Great book from what I hear, Fish suggested it. I may have to go pick it up! Yeah, I think Ironman's are harder and harder to get into. If I ever do one, it's Ironman NZ. Rotorua is so awesome, I'd love to go down there again...

Only the best for me :-)

It would probably mean we were living in NZ if I were doing that race. Which, if they would let me in the country permanently, I would do it in a nano-second...
