Default triathlon books

I know that there isn't going to be one single stand alone be-all-end-all tri training book. But any ideas what are some of the good ones or ones to avoid?

I want general training information and some training plans for different distances would be nice.

I've downloaded what I can from beginner triathlete but it sounds like those programs are too low in volume to get your real competitive.

Thanks fellow triathletes

I haven't competed yet but am training. As multisport/triathlon was not part of my background (primarily S&C), i have been learning myself. For me, since I like to plan out my schedule with a purpose, etc I like Friel's Triathlon Training Bible. He gives you the information you need to customize your training program and then put in the proper volume, etc. I could be going down the wrong path on this one, but it seems to me to be quite appropriate. I am interested in hearing what the others will say.

I have to 2nd Friel's Triathlon Training Bible. Friel's the man on endurance sport, in my opinion. He also wrote "Your First Triathlon," but that is real superficial, and for TOTAL newbies. There isn't much depth to it. His training bibles are great though.
