Not alot of info on the website or pics or anything of real interest actually.
Had a full on 2 weeks but come friday will get back to normal and will be able to spend more time training. Just have to sort out the leg pain from my runs.
With the swim. How far do you normally train for in a pool if doing 750m open ocean. I'm thinking doing 1000m straight should get me by. But what do you pro's do?
Transition from bike to run seems easy to me as i'll be using my mountain bike with normal pedels so no fancy shoe change. Just hop off bike and run.
The swim transition will involve me getting dry and dressed type thing.
I obviously don't know what I'm doing so any advice welcome.
The open water will be a lot different than pool swimming and I would recommend getting some of the open water into your training. In the pool, include some speed work into the training and for your distance do a minimum of 1500m on a regular basis.
The transition from bike to run isn't as much about the clothing change but more about making the legs do something completely different. Some people get real rubbery legs and others (like me) might get some cramping in the calves. Something you should be ready for.
Hope that helps.

I like this: go with a moderate pace bike build to race intensity for last 5-8 miles. Run at race pace coming off the bike. You don't need to do the whole distance, just trying to get your body used to the changes.
Did a brick yesterday. Had no cramps or anything but did feel weird. Legs felt like they were barely getting off the ground but i was moving alittle faster than normal runs. Went the full distance on both bike and run. Time was about what I expected but hopefully will go faster on the day with the extra competition.
Felt a stitch coming on the whole way accross my chest (ie diaghram) but it went away without me really noticing it much.
Now the big goal is to get into the ocean for some ocean experience.
I've been using my old mountain bike and the bike is letting me down big time. Only just remembered yesterday that I could use my wife's hybrid. Not the perfect choice but much less friction from the tires.
28th September. 2 weeks today (AU time). The goal is <2hr.
Decided to look at buying a road bike. No point buying one in a month and wishing I had it for the race. Have an RDO on tuesday so shopping time. With a new bike the time should be closer to 1:30-1:40.
Loving the training. I'm already looking on the triathlon QLD site for a olympic distance beginning of the new year. Loving spending the time outside. Off to work. Need bike money and all that.
Got fitted and added all the essential extras. Went on a 33km ride today just to get used to it. Felt confident on it after a few km and man it loves hills and slight rises. Top speed was 49km/h (30mile/hour), no fear at that speed at all.
Got the hardcore tires (added strength), under seat bag with tools and spare tube, pump, computer, waterbottle, think thats it.
Also picked up some tri shorts. Wore them on my ride but wore them under my shorts. Not man enough to wear lycra in public just yet.
Will take some pics of my actual bike but its the same one as the link.
To footpod or not to foot pod? That is my question.
I have a polar HR monitor with footpod that I've been using in my runs. Am I allowed to wear it in the race? I like the feedback so I can adjust my pace.
Checked the rules on the Australian site and you aren't allowed ipods and music stuff but didn't say nothing about footpods or alike.
unofficial times:
swim 750m 17:30 (2:33 per 100m)
bike 20km 43:00 (av 28km/h)
run 5km 35:00 (av 9.3km/h)
transition 1 and 2 2:30 total.
Overall very happy with that.
Had a mild freak out in the water. Did the first 100m then realised that I didn't have enough oxygen. Was very hard to breath with the chop of the water. Ended up doing freestyle with head out the water. Overall happy with that time because I'd predicted 15min for the swim.
Transition 1 (swim to bike) was pretty good. Had no logistics problems with anything so that was good. About 1.5min from leaving water to leaving transition with bike.
Bike. Went really well. was a 2 lap circuit. Almost half of it was up slight slope which really started taking it out of me. The downhill bits gained me some time. Overall bike was slightly slower than I was targeting but am happy with that.
Transition 2 (bike to run) this was less than a minute. Had no shoes to change so just racked bike and left. When I was leaving transition I heard that someone had just finished in 1:03. Turns out he wasn't even in the top 10. Wow they are fast.
Run. Had no problems with calves or stitches or anything but heat was starting to kill me. Run felt slow but when I reviewed the times was actually not that much slower than my fantasy time of 30:00.
Overall was in the last few finishers but was only 8min over what I had hoped I'd get. I didn't realise that the WHOLE field would be so dam fast.
