Multi-Sport RacingTriathalons and Adventure Racing have been sweeping the nation at a phenomenal rate. Multi-Sport Racing is one of the few sports where just completing a race is often considered a victory. Learn all about this sport, post photos, meet potential teammates or brag about your performance in a race.
I love triathlon, the whole idea. Multisport is amazing. I've done a couple sprint distance, and an Olympic later this summer -- I think I want to prepare for a 70.3 soon.
How many weeks out should I start training? Can I still do weight training while training for IM? Do I need a coach?
Any recommendations for race sites?
I'd also love to hear anything else ya'll have to add.
I am also training for one right now, and my current blog is here: erictrains.blogspot.com
I'm actually in Vegas right now for my best buddy's bachelor party, but when I get home, I'll post a more thought out and sober response to this.

If you have a triathlon club near where you live i think that is the best way to do it. Something about doing the training and competing with others makes it so much more fun. Maybe its bc you get to share your accomplishments and cheer for others and have them cheer for you. I did my first tri a couple of months ago with team in training and then i did a sprint tri this past weekend by myself and it wasn't nearly as fun. but it could also be that i preferred the olympic length.

Thanks for all the tips. I'll check out beginnertri.com. I have a friend I train/race with, so I have a buddy, but there's also a tri club near by I'd like to look into.
I started looking at a few 70.3's for next summer, so I can plan my training and starting persuading others that doing a HIM with me would be a fabulous idea lol.
I'm not sure if Id rather do a 70.3 in May, and train Jan-May, or race in Sept so then a bulk of my training would be in warmer months and I'd have more races to use as practice stuff.
I'd suggest a late summer race. That way, like you said, you can enjoy the spring and summer training. Colorado is very difficult to get on the roads for a spring long course, and I'd venture a guess that NJ would be the same.
I'd find a good training plan, and as was suggested above, find a buddy. Even if they don't do the race, find someone who you can ride or go on some of your runs with. It really keeps you accountable, because you will feel the pull of burnout. I promise. Having someone waiting outside at 5:30am for a run or 6am at the pool will give you more reasons to get out of that comfy bed. And by the way, get enough rest. That is the most important piece of advice I can give.
Get massages. Treat yourself to fun food sometimes. Have a blast with your training. And kick the race in the pants. Keep us up to date as to how you do!!!

Awesome, I think Eagleman might be one of the closest 70.3's to Jersey.
Only problem I'm having with an end of summer race is finding something close.
My friends think I'm nuts for thinking about this now, but I know that registration for some races closes very very quick.
