Happy Hump Day! I had a rough day yesterday, and was ready to mope all night on the couch. I thought about this thread, and just told myself to go run a mile. I ran 4 in the dark and cold, and felt 100% better when I got home. Thanks to you all, for being the kick in the pants I needed to get out the door. I hope that sometime, I can return the favor

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”
I woke up so sore yesterday. I had a brutal Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class the night before and every part of my body hurt. My triathlon training schedule said i had to swim 1500 meters and i sat up in bed and was like there is no way i can make it today. i am too sore. so i laid back down in my warm comfy bed and then my wife's sig line from her emails popped into my head as it always does when i think i can't finish something.
"You must do the thing you think you cannot do." --Eleanor Roosevelt
This always helps me push through the last few miles of my runs when i think i already emptied the tank. Its funny how much more we can do when we try.

Happy Weekend all! I hope you have some nice weather where you are and can get out there and get after it! Enjoy your weekend, I'm *fingers crossed* going to get a bike ride in this weekend. Roads are dry, and if the temp hits 35-40, I'm going. So I hope you can too!!!

This is one of my favorite quotes, too. I'm realizing that I need to stop in this thread much more often. It truly is inspirational. Thanks for starting it, E!

On Krista mistressing the chin-up, "It's amazing", said one gym source, "considering that for months she just hung there like a dead fish."
I had a humbling/great experience today. I was doing my favorite run, start at my wife's Wild Oats, and run up Boulder Canyon towards Nederland. The run starts through some of Boulder's great little parks, and then hooks up with Boulder Creek and follows a pretty steep climb up into a BEAUTIFUL canyon. I ran up it really hard, about 25-30 minutes of climbing. Stopped at the creek, stretched a bit, and then descended. I was cooking on the downhill, and all of a sudden, I hear feet pounding behind me. I pick it up a bit, and hear a chuckle. A mid-50's man then proceeds to BOMB past me, he is truckin. So I let out a hardy "OOOOOOHHH HOOOOOOO, now you did it!" and stay on his tail for the rest of the descent, really pushing hard. I keep him up until I have to turn back to my car, and I yell out, "Hey old man, nice pace!" and get a "Not bad for a baby!!!". We both had a good laugh, told each other to have a great day, and went our separate ways. I love this town, the people are great, and they are all better athletes than I am...

You're hopes were good luck for me. I got out for a short (time and sun challenged) ride of 13 miles yesterday as the roads here were also dry and the temp was about 38. It was great because it was my first time riding outdoors in over 2 months. I hate being a gym rat.
Another Lance Armstrong quote I like, since my pic is too small and I'm not sure how to post it in the actual message, here's what it says:
Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside, and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever. -Lance Armstrong
good luck with your first IM! I am training for my first tri. if all goes well i am thinking that i will keep up training and shoot for a half IM and eventually an IM. but thats my long term goal. i just have to survive the task at hand. it turns out that i love training though. the fund raising is an other story

Wow Jen, Couer d'Alene is a beautiful race. I have a friend who's done it 3 times, and was lucky enough to train with Heather Gollnick last summer - who has placed very well there. They both speak very highly of it.
Thanks for the quote SG, that's a great one!
Here is a good ole Monday morning one for you all - have a great week of training!

I'm laughing reading that since Lance uses part of that in this funny Nike commercial that pokes fun at some of his cliche phrases:

Thanks! Last year we were there in January and the snow SUCKED big time. It hadn't snowed in weeks, there were bare spots everywhere and everything was scraped to hell. Johnka came up and he introduced me to terrain parks.
Happy Monday all! I hope you had a good, active weekend. It's bitter cold here, and I've got a bit of a tight hammy, so I'm taking today off after a big weekend of running. Here's today's quote:

I found my dream house last month off Ridge Road in Nederland (or at least best I could tell from the realtor photos). Beautiful area. Hell the state is beautiful. I applied for a job with Boulder water dept a few weeks ago on a whim. No expectation to getting it, but it's nice to know there are jobs to be had. We're going to start looking in earnest come June....assuming the economy doesn't go belly up by then. Will probably be looking for an off-road tour guide if/when we move.
Great thread, by the way. Many quotes worth remembering.
