I was hoping to come here with great news about how terrific I did yesterday despite injury and very little training. But, the truth is that the results I've seen posted seem so fucked up that I'm kinda pissed right now.
First of all, my thinking was that it was very possible that I beat my time in this tri from last year DESPITE the lack of training. However, the results say I finished 8 minutes slower. (My watch wasn't working...my buddy also didn't time his splits accurately)
Swim: sure as hell felt like more than 500m and I'm not the only person who thought so. My swim time was almost 9 minutes longer than last year. Now, I know that I'm slow, but not THAT slow! Also, I noticed that the swimmer who finished 9th out of 325 competitors took over 12 minutes to swim 500m. WTF? Does that seem wacko to anyone else? My buddy has no swim split or transition time posted at all. There is a 'total' time posted in his swim column but it is greater than my total swim time and he finished the swim ahead of me and was already in transition when I got there!?
Bike: First time in a tri with my new bike and it felt real good. My buddy, who finished right behind me, commented how he thought I was really kicking butt. According to the results, I bested last year's time by about 2 minutes. Was it actually more...or less?
Run: Despite some calf cramps and leg pain throughout the run (and I had to take a piss the entire time), I felt I did better on the run than last year. Maybe the two short stops to stretch out my calves was the difference. My buddy and I sprinted to the finish together - I won. Results showed a 20 second increase over last year's run.
Hey, I'm glad I did a triathlon, but don't think I'll do this event again (there were other problems last year). And I have a lot of work to do to improve in all areas. There's no doubt about that.
I'm gonna check back with the results to see if any updates are made. My guess is there are a lot of people questioning these results.
So I've got one under my belt for this season...need to figure out what's next!

Hey man, you got 'er done. Calf cramps are the freaking worst, I hate them. I got them when I was doing a tri in Australia, and they didn't go away. 8 mile run, I cramped up at mile 4 and they just stayed cramped the rest of the race. I was hydrated, so the 96+ temps must have done it. Was it hot, did you get really dehydrated?
And better yet, did you still go have a celebratory beer/meal? That's a great finish to a race day.
Congrats on gutting it out, doesn't sound like it was a mental gem.

I wonder if there is some mapping site you could use to get actual distance on the swim? To find out it was much longer would probably make you feel better about the tri.
As for me..I've never done one of those so I bow in your direction. You da man.
They have re-posted results with some comment about mixing up the times for the men in the Sprint race. My time was reduced 5 minutes - so new total finish of 1:40:39. Better...but I still question the swim length. They just had buoys in the lake, Jimbo, which I doubt are still there...so no way to map...good idea though. In the end, my time on the swim was 4 minutes slower than last year...still can't believe that's correct. Oh well...time to move on!

Scott, finishing a Tri is a great accomplishment! Congrats!! I really understand your frustration, though, at not knowing for sure whether the swim distance was incorrect and whether your final "result" is really your result.

That's a very solid time! I need to try one of these I guess. Maybe some day when I grow up.

Dude! That is awesome.
I e-mailed the race coordinator last year about my race. Turns out an accident lengthened the bike course from 14 to 17 miles, and they mismarked the run course so 3.1 turned out to be 3.4 or 3.5...fwiw.
Congratulations on beating your buddy (that's the best). Are you done with tris, or just this one?
The fact that they corrected the times and were 5 minutes off on yours makes me think that you are most likely correct (the swim was probably longer).
Nevertheless, completing any event like this is an accomplishment. Congrats!! Also, you beat last year's bike and run times, and the swim length was questionable...I would say all-in-all a success.
