Multi-Sport RacingTriathalons and Adventure Racing have been sweeping the nation at a phenomenal rate. Multi-Sport Racing is one of the few sports where just completing a race is often considered a victory. Learn all about this sport, post photos, meet potential teammates or brag about your performance in a race.
The race was this morning, and it was absolutely perfect. Since Hawaii time is 5 hours behind my "normal" time, I was up and chomping at the bit at 4:00 AM. I had a solid breakfast, a great warmup, and just took my time getting prepared.
The weather was absolutely perfect as well. Sunny, about 85 degrees (water temps were around 79 or 80 degrees).
Preliminary results are in, and here are mine:
Total Time - 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 56 seconds.
I don't know what my splits are yet. But this time was good enough for 91st out of approximately 800 competitors, and I was 16th in my age group (not sure how many were actually in my age group).
I am extremely pleased with this race. This was by far my best race...and the longest and hardest one I've ever done. The bike was hilly, but still pretty fast. It was an out-and-back, so all the uphills on the way out turned into downhills on the way back. I hit 36 mph at times...going into the wind! The run was without a doubt the hardest run I've ever done. It also was hilly, and the last two miles were on lava rocks and sand!
I will post pictures and official results as soon as they are in.
Oh yeah, I was competing with TEAM in Training, and I was the first finisher on my team.
Hell yes Drew!!! That is awesome! Congrats on finishing your toughest race, that's a great feeling. Now go find Java Joe's and get some fantastic Hawaiian Pineapple rice. Oh, and enjoy your week off

Great job Drew...a hearty CONGRATS from Texas! Enjoy the islands!

Having such a great result from your longest race yet is fantastic. Hmmm...maybe you're actually suited to the longer stuff. Ever considered a HIM?

As it turns out, I came in 92nd overall and 15th in my age group, and my splits are as follows:
Swim (1.5km) - 33:15 (2:05/100m; 325th best swim)
T1 - 2:46
Bike (40km) - 1:10:12 (21.2 mph; 88th best bike)
T2 - 0:43
Run (10km) - 45:03 (7:16/mile; 52nd best run)
TOTAL - 2:31:56
I am very pleased with these splits. I was right where I thought I would be on the swim, I was a little faster than I expected on the bike, and a little slower than I wanted on the run. However, given the course, I am actually pretty proud of my 7:16 mile pace. That run was HARD!
Looks to me like you came in 79th, Drew! That's freakin' awesome out of a field of over 600. GREAT JOB!

Yeah the official results have been modified. Apparently some people ahead of me were hit with penalties or something, and I moved up from 92nd to 79th. I stayed 15th in my age group though. Oh well.
I am back in Dallas now. I am working on uploading the pictures right now, and I will also post a link to the official race photos.
