For those of you who think an Ironman is for wusses how about a double or triple?
North America's Longest Triathlons! The Double is a 4.8-mile swim/16-mile paddle, 224-mile bike and 52.4-mile run. The Triple is a 7.6-mile swim/24-mile paddle option, 336-mile bike, 78.6-mile run. The Double has a 36-hour time limit and the Triple has a 60-hour time limit. Racers in the Double and Triple IRON face some very experienced international competition. Well-known ultra triathletes, many defending world championships, come from many countries, as well as from around the US.
Hell yes. It's sad that once I do my Ironman, I still won't be satisfied. Hmmm..

Hey Eric, you're right about not being satisfied after an Ironman. I mean, you definitely are, but when the memory of the pain has vanished the memory of running down the finisher's chute with a couple of thousand people cheering you on remains, and the desire go back for more intensifies with time.
I have had to quell these desires to return to Ironman the last 12 months due to heavy study and work committments, but this year is clear to go do Ironman WA on December 2nd . Do you have plans for a specific Ironman?
BTW I read most of your log leading up to the HIM in August - awesome time man. Hope you get to do an Ironman sometime.
Hey Kevin - great to have another triathlete on board!!!
I've heard such great things about Perth, and the IM WA there. I spent last winter in Brisbane, and did a short little tri up on Bribie Island, and the Noosa Tri Festival. Triathlon is such a different sport Down Under, and it makes me sad that we can't get it to that level here.
I think my first will most likely be IM Wisconsin (more COWBELL!), but would love to get down to Rotarua at some point, and over to Perth as well. This season is more prep for me, a few century bike races, 2 marathons, and then a few olympic distance races. I have a friend that wants me to do Wisco with him in 2008, so that's the target.
Great to have you on board, and I can't wait to pick your brain about Ironman.

Wisconsin - that looks like a tough course. Actually, I prefer some hills (being only 5'8" and a race weight of only 62kg (132lb) hills tend to swing the balance in my favour - 132lb doesn't afford you a lot of brute strength I'm afraid!
IronmanWA is dead flat, meaning you're churning the pedals the whole 180km! Coincidentally, on the weekend just gone I read the book Swim, Bike, Run, Laugh by Dan Madson that chronicles his trainig up to his first Ironman - in Wisconsin.
Glad I don't have an Ironman coming up soon though - a 10 month-sort-of-sabatical has stuffed me around, finding 50mi rides and 10mi runs are wiping me out. After Ironman WA again would like to do Ironman Oz and NZ, and hopefully one of the IM North America ones, and perhaps one in Europe. I remember telling my partner that I needed to get this Ironman thing 'out of my system', but she knows the real me, and knew I would be hooked.
Hope to hear more about your training through the year. Happy to trade tales from the trenches.
