Default My Mini Adventure.

I unfortunately missed my bus this evening and had to wait 30 minutes for the next one. Yeah, I am sure you all like hanging around a bus stop doing NOTHING for 30 minutes.

I decide to walk to the transfer point, about 20 minutes away.

I walk about 2 minutes and notice that there is a lot of people waiting for a bus that goes sorta in my direction. It travels north aprox the correct distance, but travels west a few blocks as well. I figure what the hell, I will take this bus and go cross country. How hard can it be, it's night and I don't know the area that well...

I choose my stop and get off this bus and head out into the night.
I come across a bike path that leads to a pedestrian overpass. Perfect I am not sure where I am exactly. I climb up to the top and look down. I orient myself and decide that the back alley the parallels the road will be a good route.

I follow the alley along the sound wall until the wall ends at the next intersection. I discover it ends at a chain link enclosed field. Across the field is the intersection in question. Not exactly where I thought I was, but now I know exactly where I am. A little looking and I find a door into the field.

I cut across the field and find the fence on the otherside. Pretty easy to find it is 6 1/2 feet of chain link. I move up the fence looking for an exit to the intersection. None to be found. Screw it. One foot on the fence, I push up and the second leg is on the top of the fence, I briefly consider how smart jumping down 6 1/2' is and over I go. I land, knees absorbing the shock.

My shoes are very flat soled but I can run on the grass I discover. I run down to the intersection and I cross the road. Now I am enroute home!

Along the main road is a dog off leash area. I run the lenght of this, but eventually it runs out and I have to run up a short hill and cross a small road. On the otherside of this road the green space continues. At first I am up above the road and level green area, but it is pretty scrubby anyhow. I stay up and follow a narrow path along the top. After a few feet I am back into green! I run down the hill and along the green space till it runs out.

I cross the second to last intersection and walk the 5 remaining blocks home.

The best part? Not only did I get some physical activity in, I was feeling better than I was when I left AND I figured I was as fast or faster than I would have been on the original bus route.

So that's my mini adventure. Some climbing, orientiering, running and hiking!

AWESOME! I've read a few places that the best part of cycling (and agree whole heartedly) is that if you come to a turn you've never seen, just go. So what if you get lost, it's half the fun! Way to be spontaneous.

This busts me up! He didn't want to wait for the bus since that would be a waste of time but then when he got home he took probably twice that much time to do a map with captions and lines describing the ordeal.

As they say down here, "Og, you're a hoot!"
