They are Oval Slam Bars, I like them because I don't have to stretch the lower back as much. They're GRRRRREAT!

I'm leaving work VERY shortly! I'm so stoked to get out there. My sprint is a week from Sunday, so a quick turn around.

Eric, your reports of your experience and the training are very inspiring. I'm looking forward to reading about your Sprint. I really need to read this forum regularly. Maybe we need to combine this one with "Running" and some others and have a "Steady State Cardio" one for everyone around here who can't help catabolizing their muscles! Great job!!
Agreed Dave. Totally agreed. It's nice to have a small group that thinks the same way.

It is nice to have a bunch of us who enjoy some or all aspects of this stuff.
It is gaining though, Johnka and Mike Roussell, both mention an interest in adventure racing in this weeks fitcast.
Hey..where are those pics eMartin?

You should have seen me before, I weighed 180 or so lbs, now I'm 164. I started 3 years ago at 210. So I've lost a ton weight!

I was a fatty. Very very fatty. I'm happy with how far I've come. It's amazing how much you can make fitness (especially triathlon) your lifestyle, with the right people around you, and some will power, it's pretty easy. And it's a lot better than being fat!

Well, last tri of the summer tomorrow. It's rainy and cold today, and looks like it might be that way tomorrow as well. As long as there is no lightning, I'm good! I haven't trained much since the HIM, so this is more a fun tri in my hometown. I'll get a race report up tomorrow night, eh?

Yesterday was the best race of the year for me, and coincidentally I didn't care, or prepare, as well as usual. It was weird.
It was 37 degrees outside when we started the swim, and they told us the water was 68, which I say is horseshit, it was at MOST 63. I had a fast swim, 32nd/491, 20:45 for a 3/4 mile swim. Slow T1 due to the numbness in my arms and feet (2:01).
I head out on the bike, FREEZING my ass off. By mile 2 of the 20 mile bike, my legs and upper body were numb. It was actually a blessing in disguise since I couldn't feel any pain in my legs, and gave me the 52nd/491 overall bike time, 56:05 over 20 miles (21.4 mph). I was stoked with that time, and only got passed by the first person in my age group at mile 18 or so (I was leading my age group up to this point). I had a faster T2 (1:15) and was off on the run.
My feet stayed numb until mile 2 of the 4 mile run. It was a fast, easy run, 28:12 over 4 miles (7:03 avg.). I was hoping for a sub-7 minute mile run, and am pissed that I couldn't run 12 seconds faster. Ugh. But it was a great day, cold, but great.
I finished 22nd overall (23rd if you count one of the relays) out of 491 competitors. I couldn't be happier with my race. Or my season. I am letting myself have a bit of coffee and some chicken fingers today, and then I'm going to get my diet in shape for the winter of lifting and training. Gotta let fly a bit, eh?

Great way to finish the season E...you've accomplished a lot this year. A 'bit of coffee and some chicken fingers'? That's all you are going to allow yourself?
Only 37 degrees in August - surprising even for Steamboat, isn't it? The water should have felt like a bath. Barton Springs pool over there in the picture is 68 degrees year-round. It feels real good in January when it's in the 40s early in the morn.
Again, congrats...my hat is off to you and the phenomenal effort you've put forth.
