Well, so much for recovery. Had a nice brick session today:

60 minute bike with a bit of climbing. I was going through an intersection and wasn't clipped in and my foot slipped and nailed my pedal. I have a HUGE bruise and a nice cut, but it's actually not in too much pain. I'm icing and popping some advil tonight, so hopefully it'll feel okay tomorrow.

Jumped off my bike, ran into my living room for a quick "transition" (about 2 minutes) and off for a 30 minute run. A nice little out and back along the river, and my ankle felt alright. I have a long, open water swim planned tomorrow with the tri club, so I should be able to stay off of it for the most part.

I'm eating like a maniac today. I'm so hungry, and I'm trying to shut my body up, but it's not working so well. I mean, I haven't eaten a ton, but my resistance is fading. A big pasta dinner might be in the works...........

Anyway, Le Tour is coming up, and my next tri is only about 4 weeks away. So life is grand!!

Dude, you are so addicted!!! Great race report and nice times. I'd have hung with you in the water but you'd have left me on the bike and run. Nice job.

Yes, my name is Eric, and I'm a tri-aholic.

Busy few days of training for me. Last night I met up with the guys and gals from the Steamboat Springs Triathlon Club and had a really nice open water swim. It was great - a bit chilly, but great.

I had a 90 minute run today. I just read an article about tuning out everything except for your body when you're training, and I really worked on that today. Focus on the aches, the pains, and what feels good. Work on the aches and pains, whether it be through stretching, heat, ice, whatever. My ankle is still sore from my pedal incident the other day, and my knees are a bit sore too. So I'm icing tonight, a lot! I found a cramp in my stomach, but popped an electrolyte tablet and it vanished. Awesome. Those tablets are really working for me.

Anyway, off to work! Have a great Thursday, and thanks all for the support!

I'm still riding the high from this past weekend - which has stirred up some much needed motivation for me. I was lagging there for a bit.

I have a scheduled off day today, after a long run yesterday, my legs are thanking me. I have a big weekend planned, with a 3 hour day tomorrow (20 minute swim, 2 hour bike, 30 minute run) and then a long swim Sunday.

The next three weeks are the biggest weeks of my training plan, before the taper week and my next tri (Boulder Peak - Oly distance). After Boulder Peak, I have 2 weeks of pretty easy training, and then the big one. And then 2 weeks after the HIM, I have the fun Steamboat Tri. So basically 3 tris in the next 8 weeks. That's how life should be.

So for today, I'll sit in the coffee shop, drink some decaf and get nice and hydrated for my big effort tomorrow. I'm going to experiment a bit tonight with a nutrition tidbit I picked up. Basically, drink as much water as my stomach can hold right before bed. Then, at 2am when I get up to pee, have a massive protein, fruit, and oats shake - that way, I'm full of glycogen when I get up, hammer down a gel, and I'm off for 3 hours. We'll see how it works out...I've got to start working really intensely on my HIM nutrition.

And a little bird is telling me that my training partner and I are researching a bridge Ironman training program for the winter. I hear IM New Zealand is in March, and is a great first Ironman. We're going to research flights, and see if it's realistic this year, but chances are better that in March 2008, I'll be in New Zealand...

LOOOOOOONNNGGG Brick today. I'm wasted right now, tired that is.

25 minute swim, at RPE 4. Easy enough, did 1700m at a pretty easy clip. I set up my transition area in the back of my car, and just parked at the gym and went from there. So ran out of the gym with all my crap in my hands (looked incredibly ridiculuous I'm sure) and transitioned.

1h 56min bike. Supposed to be 2 hours, but I was close enough. I rode out a flat course for a bit, climbed about halfway up Rabbit Ear's Pass, and rode flats again for another 40 minutes. Transitioned in my car...

30 minute run. I was beat by this point, as I didn't have any gels and didn't feel like stopping my training to get some. It's good I guess, because I know I can go for a bit on empty. It was hot, and I was hungry, so it's probably good to throw some adverse conditions into my training. Won't happen again though.

I got home and had some pasta, chicken, and tons of water, and I'm going to take a nap now. I'm trying to figure out how to swing (financially) a new set of aero bars and a roof rack for my bike. Stupid money! Anyway, have a great Sat. night!

Had a long swim yesterday, and a long swim planned for the day. May I first say that I'm sick and freaking tired of the pool.

Yesterday's swim was as follows:

WU: 200 swim, 150 kick, 150 pull
Set: 2x900 RPE 4
Cool Down: 4x50 (each slower than the last)

I'm hitting the pool up again after work, and yeah. I just don't have the desire to swim much right now. I'm sure it'll come back to me. Soon I hope!

Have a good Monday.

Had a long swim yesterday, as I mentioned.

WU: 200 swim, 200 kick, 200 pull, 200 swim
Set: 2000 ladder (300, 275, 250, 225....50, 25)
Cool Down: 4x50

Felt better in the pool yesterday than the last few weeks, hopefully I'm getting it back in that sense.

I woke up this morning for a quick 30 minute run, and have a swim, bike brick planned for this afternoon. Fun stuff!

So the afternoon session was great. I was wiped out after work, but I popped a few jelly beans and a shot of Gatorade, and I was rolling.

I did a 30 minute easy swim, and swam 1950m - it's still a bit slower than I want for the Half, but I wasn't going too hard today and I didn't have my wetsuit on - so I think I'm going to be alright there.

Hopped out of the pool, changed in my car, and off for a 45 mintue bike ride. I rode the Steamboat Tri course, and averaged 19.6 mph, which again, I'm happy with, but will definitely improve come race day (although if you give me 20 mph in my Half, I'd be thrilled).

Off to rest up for tomorrow's open water swim...

I had a fantastic group swim in Lake Catamount last night. The local paper came out and interviewed a bunch of us, took some photos, and are going to do an article on the tri club. I swam 4 triangles, about 50 minutes open water. My buddy Bill just got back from Ironman Coeur d'Alene so we chatted about his race for a while. Saw some pics too - it was awesome! He's going to be a great resource for my nutrition, etc. He told me about a place in town to pick up some Hammer Nutrition stuff, which is great! One of the only products that agree with me, and usually you have to order online.

I had a really rough run today. Supposed to be 90 minutes, but for some reason or another, it was a problem. My right knee and left foot were hurting, and I got a really sharp cramp in my right side at about 70 minutes. So I hobbled back home in 82 minutes - just under 10 miles. Not a bad run time or distance wise, but my body wasn't up to it today. I jumped on the bike right after and spun out my legs for about 32 minutes. It helped a bit.

Now, I know my nutrition was up to snuff, 2 cups of oats, berries, and banana for brekkie, a HEED drink before, water and a gel during. So it shouldn't have been an issue. I don't know, maybe just an off day. We shall see.

Off to work. See ya!

My feet are still fried - so I skipped today's 45 minute run in favor of a 1hr 45min bike ride. I was getting myself all pumped up for the Tour, and then ESPN News peed on my parade by telling me everyone and their mom got barred from the Tour. Horse shit.

I shall go drink coffee and pout now. HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Well deserved off day for me today. I really just lazed before work and caught the TT today. It was a great motivator actually, I'm stoked for tomorrow's workout. Long day manana, followed by the longest week of my plan (I have 2 hours planned on the 4th of July!?!). At least I'll be able to enjoy the festivites with a little less guilt.

Anyway, just bored at work. I don't know if anyone reads this anymore, but I'm just going to keep posting - I don't care what you think!!!

I think you're insane and wish I had your drive and time to do it. I just saw that the Degray Srint Tri is coming up in August. Must....Get....Ready....

Yes you should my friend. Get on the road!!!

I had a brutal day today, but it was much better than last Sunday. I had a run, bike, run brick today as follows:

25 minute run
2 hour ride
25 minute run

I was experimenting with new nutrition - using a wicked strong Hammer HEED drink, and a Hammer Gel 1 hour into the bike - and I was strong the whole time. Only at the end of the run was I tired and I think that was mental. Seeing my apartment just made me want to fall on the couch. It was a great day, and I'm sore now. Oh well.

Happy 4th all! Hope you are having a fantastic day today! Haven't been online for a bit, so wanted to update...

I had a LOOONG swim yesterday: 6x500m. Needless to say, it wiped me out.

Today, have a 45 minute spin and 30 minute run. Then I can party.

Talk soon!

So I had a great open water swim with my buddy Bill last night. He's recovering nicely from his Ironman, and the cold water at the lake is helping. I swam probably about 2000m (30 minutes or so) and called it a day.

Today, I had a bit of a death march. 2 hours of running, 14.5 miles, and one nice little tummy ache now. I used the double strong Hammer HEED drink today, and 2 gels. Kept the energy up, but the legs were a bit worn out at the end. It was a good day though...
