Multi-Sport RacingTriathalons and Adventure Racing have been sweeping the nation at a phenomenal rate. Multi-Sport Racing is one of the few sports where just completing a race is often considered a victory. Learn all about this sport, post photos, meet potential teammates or brag about your performance in a race.
I used to print out the workout before hand then place it on a damp kickboard at the end of the pool. Throw it away when you are done. (Although I have know some swimmers who would dry them out and save them in a binder, talk about anal.) Should be no reason to write as you go. Really no different the running or cycling you have to remember specific achievements and write them down later.
We have our workouts printed out, and as ODB said, put on a wet kick board at the end of the lane...we cover ours in a plastic protector, just so the paper is not ripped or torn.
LOL about the anal comment...I do not save my workouts, but I do record them in my log..including sets, distance swam, pace times for any given set, and then actual pace times that occured within a set. I also record, things that are going on with my body, how I felt, what I did to improve or what I thought may have hindered my workout. It is all in one book, sorted by date. I guess very much like most of you guys keep track of weights and reps....
Personally I think we should track that sort of stuff for anything we are trying to improve. One day I hope to consolidate my weight training together under one book.
I hate wet paper.. and wildeness canoeing we always had to take care of maps.. we'd put them in a transparent plastic bag made for them.. maybe some kind of pen like for the white boards could write on the plastic bag.
but for you..
aren't there small white-boards that are waterproof. you could write the WO in sort-of short-hand in advance just to help the memory.. then jot down the numbers.
Yeah, what Joe and swiminto said. I log them in my journal before I go, and then make any modifications to my journal when I get home. And the wet paper works just fine for me.
OG..FYI, I just found out that my teams workouts are posted on the Masters Swimming Ontario Webpage....I have attached a link to give you some more ideas for workouts, if you choose to look at it.
The page is set up for the first half of the season, hence 26 weeks, just click on any of the dates, and a Three level workout will open. This is a Masters group, so the distances are a little longer then you would normally do, but like I said you might get some ideas from them.
Sorry that came to mind and I had to post it. I even have trouble just counting my laps. I usually take a penny and move it down a tile on the floor every so many laps to keep track of how many I have done.

Don't use this method during backstroke, you'll erase everything!
My son used a chinese counter (boulier chinois, don't know how they are called in english.. to count how many times he practiced certain things on the piano.
