GSP, though I think it may be a close decision.

I was picking Herring easy but after seeing that stupid fucking bodybuilding training he's been doing with that Aponte guy I'm going with Brock - who has been doing some badass training from what I've seen.

Hmm - thought Heath was in pretty good shape - that's the same guy who conditions BJ Penn at the moment? And he's got them on a bodybuilder routine? Bizarre...

Yep, I don't even want to post a link to that video it's that bad. Machine biceps curls, shrugs, leg extensions etc... meanwhile Brock is doing some S&C appropriate for the sport.

GSP over Fitch
Lesnar over Herring
Huerta over Florian

The only pick I'm really confident on is GSP over Fitch though. I just don't think Fitch poses any kind of threat to GSP. Fitch's only strength is control and I don't think he'll be able to do that to GSP for 3 rounds. I could really see Huerta vs Florian go either way.

I agree with your picks... but remember its 5 rounds :p (unless you are refering to him winning 3 rounds at which point i retract my statement).

I really want to see Lesnar win, and i think the Huerta Florian match could go either way. I don't see that fight ending early.

Lesnar via 2nd round TKO by way of being a beast, seriously.... he cuts to 265
GSP via 1st round TKO. Fitch seems to start out slow, and I think that GSP will just overwhelm him in the first.

GSP via TKO

I'll put money on Florian.

lol, you're right man. I forgot about it being a 5 round fight when I wrote that.

That was total domination by GSP. He shouldn't of been so cautious cuz he could've finished Fitch several times.

Lesnar was boring as hell. The guy could obviously dominate but holding someone in a wrestling position for most of the fight is lame. Finish the fight already. The ref should've stood it back up several times.

Huerta vs Florian was the most disappointing fight of the night. Huerta really should've set up more punches. Half the time he either just swung for the fences with his right or threw it and pulled it. He threw more rights than lefts which is rarely a good sign. Florian backed up most of the fight but did win it because of doing better on the ground. I thought it was a patheticly passive showing for both of them.

MacDonald vs Maia, imo, was fight of the night. That was everything a ground match should be. MacDonald did pretty well considering Maia is so versed on the ground, but Maia really pulled it out in the end. I'd like to see them fight again.

I enjoyed that fight very much. I'm still puzzled by why MacDonald would take it to the ground when he has an 8" reach advantage.

Sidenote: I've gone to the same bar to watch UFC since #66 (Dec 2006). Back then, the crowd was 95% men, 5% women. Last night it was 60-40. I only noticed this when Maia came out: all around the room, guys were pointing at the screen and explaining to their girlfriends who Wanderlei was.

Snippet of Fitch post fight press conference on the UFC site:
Reporter: "Jon, do you think you hurt him at all?"
Fitch (ruefully): "I hope. God I hope so, I was trying..."

I think you're right. Even his corner told him after the second round to keep it standing. MacDonald is a smart fighter so it's surprising he didn't try to keep it standing more.

I bet the Target Center was a great venue - cool that you saw it live.

Lesnar was boring and an arrogant meathead ass. Wish he'd go away but it was obvious they didn't want that fight to get stood up no matter how little was happening on the ground.

GSP and Fitch were great examples of sportsman, and tough as hell. The Maia fight was excellent too, needless to say.

it was awesome, the place was packed. I think DW said 15k at the post presser. loud. every time a popular fighters name was mention, or picture put on the screen the place erupted. GSP and Brock getting the most reaction of course. Kongo got a pretty good reaction too.

HH had said plenty of things about Brock, and supposedly was getting worse backstage. Brock dominated him and got the last laugh. I don't think stand-ups favored Heath anyway. those mallets at the end of his 81" gorilla arms move pretty damn fast. Brock's a star, he knows it, he loves it. good for him. IMO he gets a lot of unwarrented hate. oh well, I look forward to watching him progress.

side story: at the Fight Club Q & A(which turned out to be a much better time than I thought it would be, Dana knows how to entertain a crowd) one of first Q's was from a guy on his honeymoon asking for "ticket upgrades". Dana told his guy to give him tickets, but said now everybody else better not start asking.

a running theme was on Canadians. how everywhere they go there's tons of Canadians, Canadians this Canadians that...crazy fucking Canadians.

one of the people I went with was Canadian. we went out friday night, hitting up a bunch of places downtown that were mostly dead. finally I figure lets go check out one of the bigger clubs, maybe the crowd will be there. on the way we pass some random hole in the wall bar I've never heard of. my friend says we should check it out, so I figure whatever may as well. big cheap beers as would be the case we stay for a bit before getting bored. making our way towards the exit we see Dana White walk in.

we approach him and my friend gets a picture with him. then I say to him,"hey, do we get ticket upgrades too?". he laughs for a second then says "wait, are you guys fight club members?". I say "yeah, and get this, he's Canadian". "HE'S WHAT?!?!? CANADIAN?!?! FUCKING CANADIANS!!"(with his hands waving in the air). "yeah, and...AND...its his birthday on Sunday!". he looks at one of the guys in his posse(which included mark dellagrotte and some random UFC employee's) and says "get these guys some ticket upgrades".

edit: I'll also add that pictures do not do Edith and Arianny justice, they are ridiculously hot. good lord.

That's cool. Which club was it?
I miss that area - used to live within biking distance of the warehouse district and spent many a fun night down there.

Cool - really enjoyed the MacDonald fight. GSP was very gun shy. Did Heath actually throw any punches or kicks? All I saw was the clumsy knees in the clinch...

Gluek's Restaurant and Bar

Glueks is where we met him. we where headed to the Annex.

how long ago did you live here? the nightclub seen here is too "whats new?" and so clubs rarely make it more than a couple years. First Ave is probably the only old one still around.

Never heard of Glueks, but I know the Annex of course.
Is the Fineline still there?

I get back in the area at least once a year but it's been a couple since I've been downtown. I did my undergrad at the U of M and it's been 12 years or so since I've lived there. Used to train a bit with the MN Kali Group.
