Default CAN ANYONE HELP ME???

Hi i'm pretty new here and this really caught my eye. Ijust took some training to teach a Les Mills class called BodyCombat. It's a mix of Martial Arts. The thing is my technique really needs some work. I got all the upper body stuff but my kicks really suck. My sidekick and Ginga evasive side jump kick really stink.
Anyone have any good training tips at all??? I have no Martial Arts experiance at all and any feedback would be appreciated.

Not an easy one to answer by internet...but do a search on improving kicking - there was a thread on the flexibilty side of things a while back.

Hi Jenniem

Welcome to the boards.

IF I am not mistaken the Les Mills programs are basically areobic dance based course which have different themes in the aerobics work out (such as "sport or dance or martial arts). So as such, I think that if you are running this kind of class the actual maritial aspects of the kick (power speed etc) is not of primary concern but rather "look" of it.

This I think is where the problem lies. One of the best ways to "kick high" is to practice kicking high with good form. In this kind of video you will see people who kick like dancers not like martial artists. They are just going through the motions of kicking. And this is fine as an aerobic workout, but if you are not kick with intensity near the end of your flexibilty range you will not see any flexibilty gains from this. So to get good at kicking high by kicking high you need to do a more realistic kick. I suspect most of these people in the video have never actually kicked anyone and their flexibilty comes from dance. I think that kind of kicking the are doing is very high and impressive, but they are dance manuevers.

That being said, if you do want to kick high, a good way is to practice kicking high. Stretching and hold a stretch is a good / safe way. Felxibilty through the groin area and hips is important in being able to kick high, stretching them is also important as is warming up.

hope this helps.
