Here's the pretty much finalized Fight Card for PRIDE 33 (February 24th, Las Vegas):
Wanderlei Silva vs. Dan Henderson
Takanori Gomi vs. Nick Diaz
Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Travis Wiuff
Kayato Sakurai vs. Mac Danzig
Kazuo Misaki vs. Frank Trigg
Mauricio Shogun vs. Alistair Overeem
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Sokoudjou
Joachim Hansen vs. Jason Ireland
The card looks solid. I'm interested in seeing how Nick Diaz does against Gomi. I hope Hansen makes a better display of himself than he did last time. Does anyone know anything about Sokoudjou? I haven't seen crap about the guy.
Real Deal 2.0, pander to the American audience with American fighters in meaningless matches(even if most are relatively unknown). there's 2 fights I'm legitimately interested in seeing, Danzig and Diaz.
Sokuodjou is 2-1 and fighting the guy who SHOULD be fighting Silva?
Henderson fighting for the 205lb title? retarded. hasn't defended his own belt once, lost his last fight at 185, so he gets a title fight in a different weight class?

ICON is insignificant, they aren't doing exclusive deals.
Danzig has a tall order with Sakurai. I was talking with two of Mac's training partners this week and they said his weak point is his wrestling (which is still good) but they are looking for him to stand and box with Sakurai.
Shogun vs. Overeem might be the best fight of the night.
Yeah some matches that don't mean much concerning the title picture but shit, I'm excited anytime Silva, Hendo, Gomi and Shogun fight.
And... if all goes well it's likely that I'll be there taking it all in live.
Yep. Live.

For real, Nick Diaz is with pride now? That punk isnt worth the price of his gloves. Whats this, Pride sends us Silva, Rampage, Cro cop and we send them Nick Diaz.......yeah sounds fair to me.

Lol..."Wanderlei Silva is the most dominant 205 fighter in the world, Welterweight title holder Henderson is the only American champion brave enough to face him"
Gotta love those copywrighters.....

First time going to Pride and it should be a blast.
Nakamura is out with a knee injury but oh well, there are alot of other potentially great fights there.
btw The Rock was in the gym last night and I was so excited about Pride I went up and gave him a stunner like Stone Cold woulda done (btw he usually does full body)

He's built but not hyuuge. Just keeps himself in good shape.
Everyone looks bigger on screen, just check out Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. He probably clocks in at 180.

Just not the same without the 10 min. 1st round and the soccer kicks....
; - )
Hendo will get blasted.....I don't get it, they come to America and both times so far they have had WAY sub-Pride cards. In fact, both times they have used the ' Fedor/Wandy is the most dominant fighter in the world and Coleman/Hendo is the only guy brave enought to get in the ring with him!' line.

I don't think they really understand the American market yet. It seems Pride's Jpn management thinks Americans wanna see American underdogs the way Japanese like to see smaller Japanese fighters go against bigger, stronger foreigners and beat them with technique and "Japanese heart."
Hopefully they'll realize that or get better matchmakers here to set things up.
Yeah I'll miss Wandy and Shogun's stomp game too.
Still gonna be cool as hell seeing them live though!

Have you noticed he can't help mentioning it? I think he even worked it into a PWO shake recipe on the nutrition forum...

Major upsets there, eh? What the hell was up with Gomi's cardio?

Not a bad seat in the house and even though our comp tix were on the 2nd level we could see the action very well without binocs or using the big screen.
In general fans were better educated than the typical UFC types with Shogun, Silva, Gomi, and Sakurai getting more cheers than others, which proves my point that Pride doesn't understand the US market yet. Fans want to see the best fighters and care less about where they are. Well, aside from one meathead sitting behind us that when asked by his buddy Gomi's name said "fuckin...sushi-face, I don't know... Diaz won the ultimate fighter by beating Forrest Griffin" Now there's a TUF noob for ya
Sakurai and Shogun especially got a suprisingly vocal response. Many of the boo's were tongue in cheek, almost like people were making fun of the usual UFC show. Same with some of the USA calls. Groups of dudes would usually break out the counter chant of "gomi gomi" or even a token "Russia Russia" during the Kharitonov fight (that dude is large and has a scary presence).
ALOT of guys there decked out in Chute Boxe, Gracie, or Fokai gear. The apparel booths were jam packed from the afternoon through 10pm. Fedor hoodies going for $60 and T's for $25. MMA fightwear is officially big business folks. I'd guess that similar to the concert business Pride is making just as much off apparel as anything else.
What can I say about the fights but they were all excellent. Not sure how it came off on PPV but live there wasn't a boring moment.
The noise was deafening during the Gomi/Diaz fight and everyone were on their feet when Nick was lighting him up. Gomi has some heart man, in between rounds it didn't look like he was going to answer the bell. There were alot of guys in his corner.
As for Hendo/Silva I and some near me simply stood wide-eyed in shock when Hendo took him out. Silva looked pretty flat footed and wasn't moving very well the entire match. He even moved weirdly coming out to the ring. If I had to guess I'd say something is catching up to him, or he might've been sick.
That said Hendo fought great. You know a Shogun vs. Hendo fight is going to be next (especially now that 'lil Nog is out of the picture for the moment).
And what else... I won a few bucks on the slots at the MGM Grand but gave it all right back.

supposedly translated from a Sakakibara interview.
"Wanderlei's tonsils were swollen. His temperature went up to 40 degrees. So he cancelled open training. But he doesn't make an excuse. He never thought about cancelling the fight. Because he is main eventer. After the fight he cried in the dressingroom. He kept this belt 5 years. It was a part of his body."
If we're to believe the words of Henderson's camp, their man would love a chance to face PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures) — now the undisputed king of PRIDE fighters.
And after a performance like tonight's, what's not to believe?
Uhhhhh...okay.....not.
