Couture to challenge Sylvia
It's official now...I think. Couture is going to come out of retirement and take the belt away from Timmy! Well at least that's the plan. Should be an interesting fight.

Ok, if he wins, then what, take on Cro Cop? I don't think Couture would be Sylvia anyways.

My crystal ball is forecasting hyuuuge PPV numbers for the UFC on this one.
I wonder how much Vera is asking for though that the UFC is willing to put him on the sidelines for most of the year?
Just one more reason to hate on Dana. They have a charismatic upcoming HVW8 in Vera that people like, is exciting, yet won't give him a shot against an unpopular and very boring champ.
Anyone see Couture's game being enough to handle doofus's size and reach?
I'm not so sure.

I really want doofus to stay champ so I can see Cro kick his head over here to Canada. But your right Kuri, Vera fights for the chance, and he should get it.

Ya, no kidding huh? lol I gotta agree. I'm not sure Randy's fighting style would work well against a guy so much larger. I think it'd be a 50/50 chance to either fighter.

Vera only has one fight left on his contract so they're probably not gonna give him a title shot with Sylvia and risk having a free agent champion. But also, there have been reports in the Japanese media that Vera has signed with PRIDE.
I'm telling you guys, it seems Dana White wants the UFC to be like pro boxing with one (maybe two) big matches every fight and then a bunch of "who gives a crap" matches. That's why they're paying their stars well but the other fighters pretty poorly. Smart business strategy, but not so great for MMA fans. I hope I'm wrong about this though.

those "reports" were a blog from someone that several Japanese sherdoggers have said is a well known troll.
and anything on fightsport is not to be taken seriously. if anything he's going to showtime. and that would be his mistake. Rampage learned that the hard way. small orgs will pay midcarders more than they are worth for some name recognition. if you want the big money you have to earn it, thats the way it works.

Vera is not a true HW...would love to see Vera vs. Chuck @ LHW. I would love to see Captain America beat lurch but I envision a KO a-la-Chuck. Sure Randy is taller than Monson but if Monson was ineffective trying to get goofus on the ground......

I think that Randy's going to give Timmy a run for his money. No really good reason why, but I think he'll have a better plan than most of the people that Tim's fought as of late (something about age in there) and it will be better than we think. Will Randy win...I don't know.
And as to why Randy's doing this. Money perhaps. But I'm guessing that him not competing has gotten to him. Much like it got to Jordan a few years back. If you can still game, I say go for it. And from what others have said Randy's still got game. I think if any of us were in his position we'd jump in the ring as well.

Rumor is that UFC folks are about to buy Pride....anybody else hear this? If this is the case then I would like to see the following guys knock Sylvia out (ring or cage) in a straight stand-up fight...
Hunt, Kharatanov, Lil' Emelianko, Barnett.
Notice I didn't even mention the cyborg.....

Pride held a press conference in Hollywood yesterday and Sakakibara (CEO) made these comments:
Quote:
Sherdog.com: There were strong rumors last week that you were very close to selling to the UFC. Do you have a comment on this?
Sakakibara: It’s just a rumor. I haven’t had any close conversation with (UFC president) Dana White so far. But since the Fertitta brothers bought the UFC we’ve had a very close relationship and we have had friendly conversation. We’re just trying to come up with the idea on how we can make this sport grow. That’s our main concern. I think that is where the rumors are coming from. We’re constantly having a conversation with the UFC.

As an aside this event was open to fans and Wand & Henderson were there. And though I could have made some time, the Hyatt is about 5 miles away & I knew this fucking Westside traffic would turn getting there and back into an all day ordeal.
If Fedor were there however...

the one who broke it was 'bobsapfan'. he runs bettormma.com, and has been a very reliable source. he has a track record of breaking big things including the UFC having a TV show featuring fighters, and that it would probably be on Spike.
I still don't really believe it, its just TOO big.

Right now it's still just a rumor. I don't think it'll happen anytime soon. Just like getgot said, it's TOO big. I think in about a year, if PRIDE doesn't gain some ground on US soil or get a new TV deal in Japan, it may be inevitable.
