Run Tim...Run Tim!
Thought I'd put the official link up on this one. Cro Crop signed to UFC.
http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/...=3202&zoneid=1
I wonder if it's a multi-fight deal or if it's just a one fight deal. I'm also guessing that he's going to be making some serious money on this fight since we all know that Pride pays more than the UFC. Any guesses as to how much he's making? I'm guessing it's probably close to half a million?

Say hello to the new heavy weight champion. When I heard he was coming, the first thing in my mind was damn, they must be paying him a butt load.

Ohh it's official. They announced it about 8 times last night night. I would think it's a multi-fight deal because his first fight is against some dude I've never even heard of. Same thing with Rampage, his first fight is against Marvin Eastman, who looks really impressive but has been a human punching bag everytime I've seen him fight. Plus they asked Chuck about that, and he said he wants his chance for revenge. That's probably the main reason they went after Rampage was to set up the rematch between him and Lidell. Hope it doesn't backfire on them.

Cro Cop got a 6 fight/2 year deal. And you better believe he's getting a boatload + % of PPVs and other benefits (he probably saw Dana giving Chuck a Ferrari).
Tim might as well ship the belt over now and avoid the whuppin'.

Okay so Cro Cop got paid. Good for him. But besides being paid as an athlete don't you want to be challenged? And lets be honest...right now there is no freaking challenge in the UFC at heavyweight level. So who is Cro Cop going to fight after he takes it away from Timmy? Is there anyone that's not in Pride that can give Cro Cop a run for his money?

Arlovski vs. Crocop would be an ok match but we can all see how that one would go. I'm sure the UFC would build it up though (God, I hate how they overmarket things).
Heath Herring vs. Crocop would also be an ok match. But really, unless the they get some more heavyweight talent or he miraculously decides to drop down to LHW, having Crocop in the UFC is going to get boring pretty quick. That's precisely why I was disappointed he didn't stay in Pride. Having the 2nd best HW fighter surrounded by a pool of sub-par talent in the eyes of most devoted MMA fans doesn't make a recipe for the best matches.

If they can afford Crocop....they can afford others.

That's not exactly true. If I can afford a 67 Fender Stratocaster it doesn't mean I can also afford a 69 Les Paul because getting the 67 Fender Stratocaster may have drained a good portion of the resources I'm willing to devote toward guitars. I know what you're getting at though. :p
Just for the record I don't have a '67 Fender Stratocaster or a '69 Les Paul.

When they announced Cropcop....no one knew who he was!!!
....two fights later, how many extra people will be watching UFC...he's an American PR man's dream. Police man, anti terrorist commando, articulate, multilingual, senator!
UFC will make a darn site more of him than they spend on him...they will afford more.....

For the record Fedor doesn't have much competition in Pride left either. He just beat Mark Hunt despite being injured. He's put a beat down on Nogueira twice, and thoroughly handled Cro Cop. Barnett is the only guy Fedor hasn't faced but I don't see Josh taking that one (Nogueira beat Josh on the feet so imagine what Fedor would do).
Maybe Chiron can't afford it but I think Dana should be able to pony up for that sunburst strat and Les Paul (gold hardware of course).

Additionally Dana and Company just shelled out some bucks to pick up some contracts. So I'm guessing that unless the Frettas (sp) are going to put in some money of their own (perhaps by taking their casinos private?) we may be in for another weight class that is totally boring. Not that it was all that exciting before.

Aw man, is that necessary? I'm deducting a point for a low blow.
Crocop never did avenge his loss to Big Nog or Mark Hunt while in PRIDE. Not to mention Fedor. You can't really blame someone for wanting to see a tremendous fighter like Crocop go up against fighters of that caliber rather than those currently in the UFC.

since when is Mark Hunt a top caliber fighter? a decision win over Mirko can only carry your career for so long. he's as one dimensional as Mark Coleman.
yeah he should fight Nog again but how many people would not pick CC? Nog was getting the piss kicked out of him in the first fight till Mirko slipped. Nog's takedowns have never been that great and Mirko's takedown defense is tops.
he's beaten Barnett 3 times so theres nothing left there.
trains with Werdum so I doubt they'd fight and, for what its worth, Pe De Pano(the guy Arlovski killed) was a more accomplished grappler than Werdum. but one signs to PRIDE and becomes praised the other signs to UFC and is regarded as a can.
Aleks? is another one needed? no. already killed him and your brothers accomplishments keep you relevant for only so long, at some point you have to beat top fighters yourself. with no endurance and a lacking ground game(especially for being a sambo background) that probably wont happen anytime soon.

not at the top. I'd be willing to bet no one in PRIDE has seen the money Chuck and Tito got for Saturday. Yoshida and Ogawa got 2 mil a piece for their fight but that was paid by the TV station.

Hey hey hey, I didn't say Mark Hunt was the best out there, but he is a better fighter than most HW in the UFC. He's beaten Mirko AND Wanderlei. Did you forget that? It's not like those matches were 5 years ago or he's sustained a bunch of losses since then. He's only lost 3 matches in Pride and two of them were to Fedor and Barnett. That's not a bad list of people to lose to. Ya, Hunt's pretty one dimensional. But if you're gonna say that about Hunt how can you not say it about Crocop too? I'm sure Crocop has some ground skills we haven't seen yet since he's trained by some great Jujitsu guys but the only submission he's ever slapped on someone was that choke he put on Randleman if I recall right. You seem to be forgetting the fact that they are both primarily strikers and Hunt beat Crocop at what is both their strength. So ya, Hunt is a damn good fighter. Nog is a great fighter too who can beat Crocop (as he did). I do think Crocop is better than Hunt and Nog and I'd rather see a rematch with them (and Fedor) then the guys he'd fight in the UFC. Who in the UFC is he going to fight that will be a better match? Watching him beat Sylvia will be fun just because Sylvia has it coming, but after that. He's beaten Heath Herring already. Arlovski and Vera are the only other matches that look entertaining. But does anyone think his chances of winning those matches aren't greater than a rematch with Fedor, Nog or Hunt? Or even Kharitonov or Overeem? Or a rubber match with Silva? We can't blame the guy for going with who'll pay him the most. But I'm a big fan of Crocop and I'd like to see him fight the best possible adversaries.

Meh, I agree with that. lol

It doesn't matter much how good a BJJ fighter the guy is, what matters is how good an MMA fighter he is. In most BJJ tourneys there are more rules, less striking options, and you wear a gi. Yoshida is a world class Judoka, that doesn't automatically mean he's world class by MMA rules. I don't think Cruz is a can. But Werdum is a better MMA fighter at this point. Though, you're right, it's not likely Crocop will fight him.

Ya, I agree there's no reason for Crocop to fight Aleks again. But Aleks is a better fighter than most of the HW in the UFC. He's only lost to Barnett, Crocop and Werdum. He's won all his other matches, including Kharitonov who is a good fighter, so it's not like he has no game. He'd have a good chance of beating Tim Sylvia, though I think it'd be a close match.
In closing, I'd like to say, everyone eat your Wheaties.

based on what? a decision over Mirko a year ago or a decision over a 205lber 2 years ago? or the trouble he had with boxer who fights 185 now, the same one both Baroni and cyborg absolutely schooled?

pretty sure I mentioned the Mirko fight, the Wandy I just don't consider a big deal. being a K1 level kickboxer and outweighing a guy by over 50 lbs is enough to say you should win. and IIRC there was a time limit on ground action right?

being able to defend is showing well roundedness. Mirko doesn't get taken down with ease. and I have a feeling he'd defend an armbar better then he did a few years ago. and his GnP looked pretty good in the GP.
