He said tonight he's not retiring anytime soon. However if GSP beats him I wonder if he'll want to stick around and work his way back up.
btw, Serra getting on the mic after winning tonigh and calling Hughes a dick was pretty funny.

I think losing would give him more reason to stay. if he beats GSP whats left?
and GSP will win...convincingly.

I'm part of that big group of people that don't care for Hughes because he's such a boring fighter. He couldn't knock someone out to save his life. So nope, can't say I'd be sorry to see him go. But I'd like to see a 3rd match with Penn first.
How were the other fights tonight? It seemed like a pretty weak card.

I happen to be a Hughes fan. I understand why Serra calls him a dick, but I'd still like to see him beat GSP in a full five-round match.
Hughes's matches tend to be pretty good when the opponent is decent (unlike a 40-plus Royce Gracie). He's always in good shape, and with his strength and confidence he always presses the fight. So many other fights have one or both fighters holding back and working cautiously - that makes fights boring. Hughes also knows how to finish an opponent.
We saw on TUF4 that Hughes will play mind games with his opponent. GSP was basically a puss who couldn't stand it. In their upcoming fight, GSP's not going to have the mental edge he needs. He may come out huffing and puffing, but he'll eventually take a beating from someone he already isn't sure he can defeat.

You make a good point, GSP doesn't appear to have much metal tuffness. It's possible he's to nice of a guy, and that can get you killed in the ring.

I don't see Serra beating either Hughes or GSP....IMO, I don't think he beat Lytle. Terrible decision....if anything, why not just go to a sudden victory round?? Lytle got robbed.....Serra could do NOTHING to him tonight.

I don't buy that. He was tough enough to survive a 1st round pummeling by BJ and come back to win (and without the aid of a rib injury:p ).

I don't buy it either.
The only reason we aren't seeing a BJ Penn GSP fight is because BJ separated four ribs.

You can all disagree, but GSP strikes me as a guy lacking a killer instinct. He's very skilled, and that's what's getting him by.

Yes, I've seen him fight. Aggressive isn't exactly the same thing as a killer instict. I think once an opponent starts to get the better of him, he starts to retreat, rather then fight back even harder. For all intents and purposes, there's no reason he shouldn't have beaten Hughes the first time. Why didn't he? There's no reason he shouldn't beat Hughes the second time. We'll see what happens. If Hughes beats him again, then I'm sticking by my point. If he clearly beats Hughes, like he should, then I'll concede and admit I'm wrong.

The first time they fought he didnt lose because he lacked a killer instinct. He lost cause he got caught in an armbar with like 5 seconds to go after he won the round.

I'm a fan of Hughes. Reason I'm a fan of Hughes? For the most part he goes to work when he fights. He's not really flashy but he gets the job done. That's it.
I like GSP also because he's also a stand up guy or appears to be a stand up guy so far.
I think this fight, whoever wins, will be a good one.
Think the wife, of all people, has talked me into going down to a local bar and watching it this Saturday. Got a big picture of Hughes and Sylvia in the window. It should be and interesting experience.
