News that GSP was injured must have been good news to Matt Hughes but it just took a turn for the worse. George St. Pierre has been forced to pull out of his Sept. 23rd fight with Matt Hughes due to injury.

I really really really hope BJ can lay off the god damn burritos and show up in shape. He's still a nightmare match up for Hughes, stand up is light years ahead, and bjj is almost unmatched.
I think BJ was already in training for another fight so hopefully he's giving Da Hilo Boyz diet a rest
The trainer I was talking with the other day that trained with Diego said that as good as dirty Sanchez is BJ's bjj ability is damn near Rickson territory.

“I’m just happy I’m going to be the champ again,” said a confident BJ Penn. “I don’t even care about any of that other stuff. I mean, if people say that was a fluke or whatever, it doesn’t really mean anything to me. I was just so happy I got that phone call.”
I'm going to have to be the disenter here...I think Hughs is going to pull this one out. I maybe wrong, but there needs to be someone on this board pulling for Hughs. So yeah...I think Hughs is going to win this one. Especially if Penn keeps up with the Hilo Boy diet! If it goes longer than say 2 rounds, I think Hughs has a better chance the Penn. I might actually have to buy this one and watch it.
well, it's in L.A. so I might have to get down ther for that one!
I'm pulling for Penn here 100%. Hughes has his hands even fuller than if GSP was healthy.

Man im really upset, I have been waitin for gsp to get his rematch all this time. im with Dorr. Lets go country breakfast. BTW anyone see TUF4 tonight? Never havei seen so much blood.
Don't worry Steve, GSP will be back but he'll have to beat Penn a 2nd time to get the belt.
I see this as being up to Penn to win or lose. His skill set & ability are a mad matchup for Hughes. The only way I see Hughes winning it is wearing down Penn for a decision win. No way Hughes can KO or sub BJ. Zero chance.
For those that think Hughes will win it may I ask how you think he could do it?

Since I seem to be the only one going for Hughes, I guess Kuri's calling me out!
Why do I think Hughes will win.
- I think he's much better than when they originally fought. I'd like to be able to pull out beating Royce, but that's not going to hack it.
- I think a combination of Pulver, Militech and Hughes training together can be a good thing.
- I think he'll want revenge.
- How about because I like going for underdogs and he's clearly and underdog on this board?
- He's a "local" and I've got to cheer for the locals.
- And last but not least...I don't know any better. I'm more of a casual observer of MMA and don't "study" this stuff. I find people that I like and I cheer for them win or lose!
So yeah...not a lot of technical merit as to why I think Hughes will win, but there you have it.
I dunno guys, I read these threads alot, so I kinda follow along with the UFC from you all the talk in here.. and personally, I want hughes to win, only because I seem him as a little less cocky, penn just has an attitude problem..
Plus, I like how hughes owned Gracie, after he was talking a bunch of shit..
Don't get me wrong Dorr, I appreciate Matt too & have seen him fight a few times back there on his home turf.
But the fact alone that he trains with Tim Sylvia (and presumably hangs out with doofus) outweighs all the good stuff:p

Be that as it may it does not absolve Matt from doofusness by association.
Come to think of it Matt DID lose his title around the time Sylvia started fighting out of the Miletich camp. Coincidence? I think not!
Now you got me sorta pulling for Hughes because of the above stated handicap...

If only Hughes was still rockin' this Camaro crash helmet he might have a chance

I am biased though, I always gotta cheer on the wrestlers. But I hate the fact that he associates himself with doofus...I hate that lil bitch so much. Anyone who gets busted for steriods and still looks like a kid who jsut got out of fat camp jsut cracks me up.

As I posted on sherdog.....the mullet is forgiveable due to the time period but the fucking BOLO TIE?!

Hughes has a reputation for not training very hard sometimes, but I don't think that's been the case recently. Not with GSP. And now, knowing that he's facing a guy who beat him once before, you know he's goinf to ramp it up just a bit more. His A+ game is coming, for sure.
The Prodigy's BJJ studies aren't going to be much help against Hughes. My prediction: Penn gets dominated for five rounds, and Hughes unanimously gets the decision.

Dos, you actually post over there? Man, I posted a couple times a few years ago but pretty much just check the forums for a good laugh.
You gotta love the suspenders too! I'm roughly the same age as Hughes, and went to high school in a Midwestern rural town but even so... that still would have been quite a look at my school. hahaha
