Interesting interview for UFC fans.

if I can find the link I'll throw it up here but over on sherdog there was a thread where the study Bill brings up was discussed.

basically, some douche sat around watching video tapes of fights(mind you, no distinction because MMA =/= old NHB) and tallied up the number of concussions he suspected there was. yeah, not exactly the best study every done.

Well, he'd be safer doing that than boxing. He's such a fucking rude ass that he didn't let them explain. Boxing is more dangerous because they don't call the fight off at the first time someone goes unconscious. Most brain damage in fighters occurs when they continue to fight after a standing 8 count. It's also a much better judge of who's the better fighter than boxing since in a street fight there is no ref to tell someone to back off and give you an 8 count to recover.

Hmmm..quite a set up. You'd think Dana and Rich would have prepared themselves better for that.

ANd by the way, Muhammad ALi is often quoted as pointing out that the vast majority of Parkinson's sufferers have never been near a boxing ring. A point Mr White tried and failed to make twice there - and made himself look bad in the process.

This guy supposed to have started out in PR - it's as well MMA came along cause, judging by that performance, he wouldn't have made a dime in that profession!

It's really all a moot point anyway. Because not only is UFC not going to get banned, it's just going to get bigger, and it's boxing that's on it's way out. Who really cares about boxing anymore? When's the last time there's been any really great fighters in boxing? It's a dying sport.

I can't stand traditional boxing. Each time I try to watch even a high-profile event, I end up watching two guys hugging each other for 10 rounds. MMA has evolved into much more than opponents give it credit for. The versatility allows for a much more entertaining spectacle. Anyone who thinks boxing is harder to train for needs to give MMA a try.

UFC is one of the hottest pieces of television programming right now. Their pay per views have gone up in price from ten bucks to like fifty. I's say that indicates another measure of success.

And I gotta agree that while it has the potential from a wider range of injury to occur, MMA (particularly UFC) protect the fighters much better than traditional boxers. The minute the ref thinks you're done, fights over.

O'reilly is pathetic. Love the diagnosis that Alzheimers is brought on by too many blows to the head. Funny shit.

And about that argument that UFC is more dangerous than head pinatta, errr boxing, take a look at huges. the man has over 45 fights under his belt. Evander Holyfield has 48 fights to under his belt. Now when they speak, which one sounds like they have suffered head trauma

that was a pretty funny episode. Did you see White getting all bent cause O'Reilly wouldnt let him get a word in.

I find it strange that there has not been 1 death in any MMA event and yet there are about 2 to 3 deaths yearly from boxing but people still see MMA as "Brutal" and "deadly".

What most folks dont know is that the concussive force from boxing gloves repeatedly is far more damaging then single strike KO's that usually happen in the MMA world. I am not saying that MMA is anywhere near safe but its been going on now for 16 years in the US and not one death.
