I'd love to see a motivated Penn vs. Sherk or a rematch with Pulver.

Interesting that they might take him back down to the lightweights.
I'd like to see Pulver and Hughs have another shot at BJ. What little I've seen of BJ, has not been that impressive. I think if Penn and Hughs went at it right now Hughs would take him apart.

I knew I'd get some response out of my comments. Just watched the Hugh's fight. yes Penn totally dominated that one. I don't think it would happen again. Matt's taken his game to a different level, but of course maybe he hasn't fought anyone good lately.
Pulver maybe a different story as I don't think he's got much ground game.
BJ Penn is one of my all-time favorites. Actually excited to see him fight a little bit more in the 170's. St. Pierre - Hughes will be a good one though... GSP is a class act, won't say that for Matt Hughes though.
155's will get dominated by BJ if he moves down. Otherwise, look for BJ to get his shot at Hughes' belt after a couple more fights in the 170's. I think the obvious intent by Dana WHite was to throw BJ back into the UFC mix by having him beat GSP thus setting-up the rematch with Hughes.....oops.

Curious as to why you don't think Matt Hughes is a class act? GSP is a good guy from what little I've seen from him (think he's the coach opposite of Puler in TUF 4).
GSP and Hughes is going to be good. Both have improved but who will impose their will more.

I just thought he was such a dick on TUF 2 (I think it was 2). The way he was around his fighters and his overall attitude just made me do a 180 on him. I used to be a big fan. I did the same 180 with Tito on TUF 3....I used to absolutely hate Tito but now I am a huge fan based on his persona and how he treated his fighters etc.

Dos - Totally understand what you mean. I hadn't thought about TUF2, but I agree with you on both Matt and Tito. Matt didn't do himself any good and Tito did an excellent job with his fighters. Showed some maturity I didn't think he had.
Creative editing gentlemen. The coaches & fighters on TUF sign contracts that state the editors/producers may "creatively represent" them in any way they see fit.
That said I agree Matt might not have done the best by his fighters.
As for Tito the proof is in the pudding as at least three of his TUF guys are training with him full time now. The same cannot be said of Shamrock.

yeah I was suprised by how well Tita coached or was shown to be coaching (whatever). But yeah he is training Matt Handel? and some others now
I also think that Tito thought well about who to bring as assistants Dean Lister and Saul were way better than that BBer and the other guy who no one ever saw

since losing to Penn, Matt got a BS decision over Verissimo, a green GSP, Trigg(who if he knew wtf a RNC was would beat Hughes), a glorified can in Riggs(who was a replacement), and a gimmick match against Royce. none of those guys have had much success in MMA(modern MMA for Royce).
Penn was competitive in higher weight classes(and he sucks at putting on weight re:gets fatter). going to decision with the only guy who has beat Rich, by KO no less. MMA-heads get excited about him because this is a guy who comes in with TOP credentials in grappling and yet can beat most people on his feet.
GSP has had little opposition in his career aside from one round to Hughes, and has built a rep for being one of the more exciting fighters out there. came against Penn and got dominated in the first and had to lay n pray his way to decision. all this from a guy built for 155.
another good interview with him(download in 2 parts). while he's one of my favorite fighters I don't think I'd take diet advice from him. sounds like he's been listening to Matt Furrey(if anyone remembers that "chickens are weak" from a while back).
yeah but sherk is fucking crazy, and at 155 its between him n bj in that division for sure, but at 155 bj will have alot of trouble with sherk, he is the strongest 170 out there n looks like he barely if at all drops for it. Sherk brings an aggresive and power factor that no one will be able to handl at 155. his wreslting and athletic ability will not allow penn to take him to the ground and on their feet sherk wins. Not too mention sherks eblows in his groun n pound have to be one of the most brutal things I have every seen. Plus Sherks only 2 loses come from the judges against arguable the two best 170s in the ufc. Bj is a great fighter, but i dont see him beating the muscle shark.
I hope he doesn't overlook Hironaka though as these Shooto dudes are always technical and tough.

This guy just beat his BJJ instructor? Could be interesting?

I believe that Sherk came in @ 171 for his last fight. The thing that you need to factor in is that to get down to 155 sherk, who has virtually ZERO bodyfat, will have to drop close to 15lbs. of lean body mass (doesn't look like he was retaining a whole lot of water @ 171...). Penn, on the other hand, has lots of bodyfat to spare when he needs to cut....I think the match-up @ 155 will be a great one but if BJ can actually get down to 155's, he won't skip a beat and will own that division.

Sherk is a tank at 170 so if he has to drop muscle to make 155 he loses his primary weapon. He's got a short reach and is not a particularly amazing striker anyway, nor a sub wizard. He wins by keeping guys on their back with his strength and wrestling.
Advantage Penn (provided he can lay off the Big Macs)

Made the cut on Friday to 155, I felt like shit cutting the last 5 pounds but recovered well. I was back up to 173 by the next day and 177 that night, fighting at 155 is going to be great!!!
These weight categories crack me up....why don't they weigh in an hour before the fight!?!?!? It's like Eric's deadlifting over 600 at 150 something when he was closer to 180 by the time he lifted it (not digging at Eric, digging at the system)!?!? Baffles the hell out of me!

Well, the problem with this mentality is that if you actually think that you are the SAME 170+ after cutting and then blowing back up in 24 hours you have a screw loose. it's not like you can even expect to put back ONE OUNCE of lean body mass in the 24 hour period after weigh-in. There is no way in hell that the muscle shark dropped 22 pounds of WATER and then just put it back in his body....uh, no.
