Drug Testing when Pride comes to US
Interesting article about when Pride comes to the US in October.
It made me wonder how much of an advantage Pride fighters get off of drugs...if at all. I can see where if Silva were to lose to Chuck (if it happens), some would say that it's only because he's using (or something like that).
Curious to hear what other thoughts are. On another note I'm wondering what drugs might be used (EPO - Stamina related...Pride fighters just seem to go and go and go).

Fedor and Nogueira won't be winning any bodybuilding comps so who knows. If Silva is willing to get in the UFC then you can be sure he'll be clean. I don't think he'd take any chances.
Guys like James Thompson and Ron Waterman certainly look like they use... oh and Mark Coleman - did you see that weird ass lump behind his ear recently? I don't think he and Randleman will be passing any drug tests.
Though there is no testing for HGH so...

Im unclear of the (real) history of Silva's training, is he renowned for using? I know its more exceptable in Brazil to crank up, and ive seen some performances where he looks extremely vascular.
*side rant*
I gotta say im blown away at the amount of guys that still rely on the juice for the benefit of competition, or vanity. The sheer thought of what could go wrong when sticking a needle into my body keeps my well away from even considering it. Then theres the 'never really knowing" if your cranking what you are told you bought.
The guys taking HGH after a period of time all seem to get that long nose, big ears, big lips and long jaws. Its weird. and lets not even talk about the frank and beans, true or not i aint screwing around with the 'boys', period!
good article thanks!

I don't think it matters where an athlete does their thing, drugs are just to easy to get away with. we'll never really know who is or isn't using.

While we're on it, can some one educate me as to some of the real side effects possible with controlled use of steroids? I know there are many types of sport enhancing steroids so lets just pick one or two that may be popular within the realm of Pride FC.
Im pleased to say that at 33 years old im naive, this is a great thread!

Wow...I started a decent thread. I only wish that I could add more to it when it comes to the uses of steroids. Perhaps Kuri or some of the others can chime in on this!
And Kuri does bring up a good point about HGH...they don't have a test for it, as we've all been hearing with the Baseball stuff.

BTW, anyone who hasn't seen it should check out the movie "The Smashing Machine". awesome movie even for non-fans. it's a docu. that follows Mark Kerr, and one of the major themes of the movie is his use of steroids.

Was he on steroids? I don't remember that. I know that he was popping painkillers like Smarties and went to rehab for that.

Remember that Kerr trained with Mark Coleman at the Hammer House, about the roid raginest dudes out there.
Check out this interview of Coleman after his post-fight fight with Chute Boxe: http://www.sherdog.com/videos/videos.asp?v_id=577 Funny stuff

Theres a documentary called "Rites of Passage" that's pretty cool.
One of my work associates is friends with the director and related some funny stories about the crazy-ass redneck fighter they follow to Brazil. I forget his name now, and don't think he fights anymore. But apparently he would walk up the the filming crew and challenge them to fight, drive up to day laborers and pay them $100 to fight him etc... crazy sumbitch.
Eventually the film crew would just vanish whenever that guy was around.
But he did end up getting his ass handed to him in Brazil.

Been to Brazil numerous times the guys there use riods for the healing regenerative effects not to mass up. They also use it to cut weight for BJJ tourneys to lean down quick.
As for the UFC fighters supposedly being "clean" well thats like thinking the guys in "natural" lifting comps are clean too.

While it is pretty obvious that mark kerr was using, the documentary never referenced it at all. It was all about his dependance on pain killers etc. Oh, and that crazy bitch that he ended-up marrying. i think Kerr would have become a prety legendary MMA fighter if things had worked out.
BTW, who thinks that Monson is clean????
I think the UFC only tests you when you win a title....isn't this right Kuri?

Dos - I don't know all of the signs of steroid use but Monson doesn't look any better than Bas in the other thread so I'm inclined to believe that he's drug free, but I don't really know. On the other hand if he does use he'd better be drug free before his title fight with Tim Sylvia!

Well, the 5'8 - 5'9 body carrying 245+lbs. with very little bodyfat tends to make me think sauce but he could just be a genetic freak i guess. Bas is probably about 205 @ 6'1 I would guess so Monson is A LOT bigger yet just as lean.
