Default The older I get the better I was...

One of the PT's in my gym has a kickboxing bout coming up, and he asked me to help him prepare.

Just had a couple of focus pad sessions so far, and he's not half bad - but I can't help but pick flaw with him.Still, he seems keen ,and wants me to stick at it with him.

Anyhoo yesterday he took a turn with the pads and boy do I remember being better than this!Clumsy, clumsy, clumsy!

Started to retrieve some self respect towards the end, but both shoulders felt like I'd set off magnesium flares in them afterwards - took about three hours to subside to a dull throb!

Seemed relevant after all the getting older threads...if I'd kept at this stuff regularly, instead of throwing some lazy techniques at a bag once in a while once in a while, I'm guessing I'd feel a lot younger!

It's that Eric Cressy comment again, I guess;"If you're not training for something, you're just working out!"

Same again on Friday...if I can track down a decent gum shield between now and then, may actually do some sparring!God, I didn't realise how much I missed this!

I feel you man. I'm in the same boat - just training on my own, usually on a heavybag. I know that if I sparred right now it'd be an awefully sloppy demonstration!

But hey, now your back and have someone to train with. Nothin' to it but to do it.

I hear ya, Irish.....I went back to my Karate classes last week....during line drills, my legs were quivering a bit trying to maintain a proper stance. My arms were fine, as I have been swimming during my break from Karate. I bowed out before the sparring portion of the class, that would have killed me.

Got home and my quads, calves, and lower back were stiff and sore, did some stretching and was fine the next day. However I was limping a bit, as my feet took some major wear and tear on them, the callouses(Sp?) that I had built up, had all but disappeared. OUCH!!!!

Just remember it is not the end of the journey that is important, but the journey itself.... or something like that.

Just a quick update.

Frank went to Guernsey (next island over) for his fight Saturday. Dr from the sanctioning body on the mainland did a suprise inspection/drug test and called 6 of the Guernsey fighters "unfit to fight".

Bout cancelled.

He has another fight here, next month.

Interesting to see what happens there!
