Default After the Loss

Great Forum! I just discovered it today and am totally hooked. (just with I wasnt at work )

I was wondering if there were any resources anyone knew about that addressed issues after a large weight loss. Things like maintenance (of course) but also subject like body image, when to stop trying to loose, "normal" food habits (when its okay to not be afraid of all cheese), setting new goals, a place to lament about how expensive clothes are ...

Great job starting everyone!! It will be a great journey!!!

I'm not there yet, but almost certainly concerned about the same things. I'm not sure that I'll ever have 'normal' food habits, but I'll do my best to do a good imitation.

Oh, and welcome.

Welcome -

Look at various people's logs. Alot of these topics have been covered. I know that I've mused about them in my log (see link below). I've lost 50 pounds in the last 7 months and so I have bought a completely new wardrobe. Right now I'm on a maintenance week. Also - I've used Leigh Peele's program which doesn't require you to be afraid of cheese

Hopefully, you'll find the answer here and/or the Fat Loss Troubleshoot sub-forum.

I lost 75lbs, whole new wardrobe, etc.

I think I have pretty normal eating habits now (healthy, but "normal." ). I no longer have to count and weigh every little thing. It's good. I can go out and just eat and not get fat again. I'm happy about that.

It took me a while to see myself as thin. For a couple of years, I still paid careful attention to the magazine articles that helped us to "dress for your body type." I avoided horizontal stripes because Men's Health said chubby guys should, even when I wasn't chubby.

Hey, welcome aboard!

thanks Jen and Dog, I'll check out your logs. I've dropped almost 90 over the last year and I'm definatley in this weird wandering around dazed land...who'da thunk it mostly struggling with food, but not in a way I ever thought I would... I just find that I'm not willing to eat anything but uberhealthy "safe" foods, and frankly, I gotta get my calories up!!!

realcdn, cant wait to see you progress!

Glad to meet you and welcome aboard.

I'm a ways into a fairly large weight loss and those are all things I think about. I've had to buy all new clothes several times and having to budget it in sucks. Cheese is something I've struggled with keeping around but it's a regular part of my eating now (and no I'm not done losing). As for body image, mine is beyond confused as my mind hasn't caught up with my body. (I hope that will settle down with time.)

Like anything else, having things you like is good in moderation. I have a 1 oz slice of cheese in the morning which is quite tasty and satisfying.

On the cheese front, I admit to normally using a cheese blend to add to things. It's too easy (for me) to cut more than an ounce off the large block that's usually around. For the shredded stuff I can make sure I'm getting what I've planned. Sometimes when I'm uber ambitious I'll make my own blends using the full fat cheddar and a mix of other lower fat cheeses.

I understand the inability to limit certain foods. However, I do think that you need to find a way to work them in eventually. Otherwise you end up feeling deprived. I shouldn't admit this, but it is possible to buy a piece of a chocolate bar in the bulk store (only did it once, while I was buying other things).

I'm not afraid of cheese...but cake makes me quake. I kid you not.

I think that for me, I've decided that there is never going to be a time when I go back to "normal." It's a new normal now. I am a person that has a tendency to overeat. Period. If I want to maintain then I have to continue to measure and weigh and track. Period. I've been up and down enough times to have learned this. And so what? There are worse things. Everyone has something, right?
