LIVIN' LARGE: Minimizing yourself and maximizing your life! When you have over 100 pounds to lose it can seem impossible to get started in the right direction.
Okay, everyone. Home stretch. We're down to 14 days left!
For those of you still motivated, I'm very impressed. I've gone through some ups and downs the past few weeks, including a move and a vacation. It's so easy to let things slip and slide during times like that. I wish I had a tad more willpower...
By and large, I managed to eat very well during the 1st half of each day, but dinners (and desserts) with the relatives often challenged the 2nd half of each day. Ah, well... I've been good since I got back. Very good.
To be honest, willpower is an issue. But, getting to the gym was also an issue. Two kids, a roadtrip, moving, and no sitters means home workouts in limited time. Without an actual plan (my own fault...), it was hard to be motivated to bodyweight my way into a workout each day. Again, my own fault.
Well, I just purchased Zach Even-Esh's "REAL Man Fitness" program, and it will be going to one lucky Challenge winner.
It's a great, mostly body weight program, that lets you squeeze in a workout in about 15 minutes with just your own bod, maybe a playground or a chinup bar, or even just one dumbbell. Come on. One dumbbell? Who can't get one of those at a garage sale or sporting goods store. It's just one!
I know, the name is "REAL Man Fitness," but this is a great program for busy women, too. In my neighborhood, I watch women "stroll" by on their powerwalks, every single day. Well, they should be taking less time and seeing more action with a program like Zach's.
So, while many of you might be wishing you had a program like this 47 days ago, you didn't. Neither did I. But, someone will, in about 14 more days. There's always a new challenge, right?
^^^ great post Roland, didn't realise we were so close to the end.
Thorn - Just realised how far we have come since beginning - I've changed a lot of things e.g getting a new job but the body composition hasn't shifted enough in the time.
Rose - Started the new job this week - at one of the breaks in training I busted out my Protein shake - one guy asked me what is was and why I took it, and the rest of the room were interested and also asked me questions. It was at that time I realised how much i've learnt from this over the past few years as I held their interst for a good 10 - 15 mins of fitness and nutrition

Thorns - Can't really think of any. Work stress still elevated, but that's life!
Roses - Continuing to rebound on running and weight training following problems with injuries since last December. Diet has been good overall, aside from a semi-bad Indian meal on Friday evening and a real binge on Saturday night with bad-for-me nachos and ice cream. With Summer activities, it's been hard to keep the diet completely in check, and I only have one cheat point left if I want to make my goal. No signs that it's been detrimental, though, so it's all good!
I'm glad that I have participated in this challenge. It's kept me accountable and focused on the goal. I've learned a lot and opened myself up to some new exercises and experiences.
Roses: I'm looking forward to lifting tonight.
Thorns: I didn't sleep worth a diddly-do last night. And popsicles of any sort have been removed from my house since I tend to eat them without thinking a whole lot before I do.

Thorn: i got into an accident yesterday and totally destroyed my bike, we've got some bike tracks around here and i'vbe been getting pretty good on mine, so i've entered a couple of amateur races. well, yesterday, i was following a guy on a narrow path through trees down a big hill, and when we got to the bottom, there is a turn, everyone else i followed into the turn kept their speed up and carved it, as i had been, but this guy slammed on his brakes, then took the turn real easy, well, i was right on his butt, and reacted by swerving so as not to run into him... and ran into a tree. bent the frame, my back wheel looks like a pretzel, and most of the other movable parts are bent to crap. i don't think it's repairable.
so, i remember in the original post an allowance for a change in a goal if the situation was appropriate, i would like to request that my bike rides be changed to walks. if i can get my bike back before the end of the competition, then i'll resume those, but until then, i'm pretty much screwed on the bike rides part.
Things are on track I think for me with exercise and eats although I don't have any cheat points left, well, maybe one, I have to check. I am into a groove now at camp and should have no problems being compliant the next two weeks.
Rose: My TRX finally came!!
Thorn: I set three goals for my personal goal (1. sleep 8 hours 6/7 nights per week; 2. Ski at least once a week starting June 25th; and 3. Scale weight of 155) and said that I needed to meet all three to get the personal goal points. I have and will fully meet parts 1 and 2, but will not meet goal 3 and not for lack of trying, but because of the adrenal fatigue and hormone imbalances that I currently have. So I will be out the 300 points for that which sucks and pretty much ensures that I cannot win this thing. Sigh. But I won't quit!!

14 days. Week 7. Let's go!
I feel your pain, my diet has been in check for the most part, it could be better though.
It's been hot, and not it's been hot and muggy. This has counteracted my home workout theories.
Combining this with a huge lack of motivation these days and being just generally physically and mentally exhausted has not put me in a great place to meet even my less than ambitious goals.
I busted out the jump rope last night and did 6 or so minutes of that, but was trashed and very sweaty afterwards.
I am still of the mind that some type of circuit based GPP type workout is what will work best for me, I just need to actually implement it.
So in the end I have 0 roses to report, but agree with LD on everyone who is still super motivated. Way to go.

Rose: I completed FL-2B last night and got through it okay. had to break the beginner chinup and incline pushup sets down a bit in order to get all the reps in but I did it.
Thorn: I did FL-2B last night. Definitely the hardest workout I have ever done.

Thorns: All thorns. Somewhere around Friday the 13th something just Unclicked. I had only one more NROl FL-1 workout to go but absolutely no desire to do it. I had no motivation to eat well and pretty much spent the weekend eating whatever was at hand. Then Monday the 16th started feeling sick and ended up with the Queen Mother of all colds this week. Feeling a bit better today and getting some motivation back. I think 6 weeks of NROL 3 times a week had me pretty fried. Hopefully back on track next week with FL-2.
You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your f---ing khakis.-Tyler Durden
Thorn: Things are tough after vacation. I really let my eating plan slide, especially the second week. Looks like even if everything's perfect from here to the end, I still can't make up all the points I've lost. I'm trying very hard to stay motivated and not let that derail things.
Rose: Well... Work is a lot less stressful these days. I'm trying to add something else but can't think of anything.

So far there are two things that this challenge has done for me: first I know what my legs and knees are capable of doing and which exercises actually work with my limitations.
Second, I love the fact I have a journal here as I feel obligated to post what I did in the gym, which means I can't skip out on gym day just because I am lazy.

Sorry to hear about the bike, but I'm glad you're okay.
I don't think anyone would have a problem with your change of plan. But, you have to walk with your hands on mock handlebars, okay?
Roses: I have made it this far into the challenge without giving up or finding excuses to quit. I don't think I have ever made it this far into a challenge or goal of mine. I don't think that I will win anything in this challenge since my changes haven't been that extreme, but I am really glad I still did it. That is a prize in itself.
Thorns: I have a few cheat days left, but I need to tighten up my diet a little bit to make my goal weight. I need about 1/2 to 1 more pound to meet my goal.

Alright, I'll pull them off when i get home and be like that guy on the that commercial, seen that one? where his buddies are on bikes, but he's just runnin behind cause he hasn't built enough points up on his credit card yet for the "rewards". then he yells, "Let's do this!" and jumps down a hil, and ends up going into a tuck and roll.

Julie,
The committee will have to see the Doctor's note (see my suggestion, below), of course, but you can revamp a bit here.
Roses: Looks like I got a new job today (Waiting on the formal offer from HR). One of the benefits will be a gym membership (not sure what kind of equipment is in the gym tho).

Thornz: Sick. Prolly my body hating on me for doing a girly workout for funzies the other night. Won't make my lift goal, prolly won't make cardio goal but maybe because those require no recovery vs. lifts.
Rozez: enough of my personal goal has been met to count it. And the college I plan on going to FINALLY got my transcripts and we're moving ahead and I'll be registering on tuesday.
Roses:
1. Mrs. Egham is improving! Keeping my fingers crossed that her gains will be sustained this time.
2. TRX arrived
3. TRX definitely presents a challenge. What seems simple can leave one totally wupped!..
4. My war against the fire ants appears to be succeeding for now.
5. Friends here on the Forum
Thorns:
1. Our investment property tenant broke her lease in mid-term without notice. Now we'll have to pursue collection for the unpaid months and find a new tenant.
2. I had to approve (along with other Board Members) moving forward on the Foreclosure of a fellow HOA member's townhouse for failure to pay HOA dues and special assessments for the past 2 years. As President of the HOA at our investment property, I really tried to give the guy every opportunity to air any grievances, set up alternative payment arrangements and to contest the Foreclosure proceedings.
He never responded and didn't even show up at the Foreclosure hearing. The HOA lawyer has been instructed to proceed.
This young and very artistically creative designer and woodworker (beautiful stuff!) is going to experience a major setback - at least for his credit rating. He'll lose his 3-story live/work townhouse (Upper 2 stories are living quarters, bottom floor is commercial) in the town center for a measly $4K in unpaid dues, assessments, penalties, and lawyer's fees. I absolutely hate that......We, as a Board, tried to work with him for 18 months .... and can do no more.......A major thorn.
