LIVIN' LARGE: Minimizing yourself and maximizing your life! When you have over 100 pounds to lose it can seem impossible to get started in the right direction.

WOW! With encouragement and support like this, there is nothing for me to think about. I'm officially in. Figuring out how should be the least of my worries. Thanks so much for the kick in the butt...just what the doctor ordered!
Well, it has been my experience that anyone who is "out of a suitcase" as your Location says -- is usually down for most anything. It is that carefree, throw caution to the wind sort of philosophy that I am looking for. We'll tame you yet!
Welcome, thanks for joining in....feel free to invite others....

I like that. I am a free spirit alright...hehehehe...this should be fun!

Rock On Victoria!!! Rock on JPF. By the way, we have had some new people join in.
Welcome 4him. I am glad you are joining us. I have a patient to see, but if someone would start a thread for everyone participating in THE Challenge to introduce themselves and say hi, I'd be extremely grateful.

For anyone that is apprehensive about competing in public, I just want to add a little personal story.
I started walking in 5K races last year in June. As I noted earlier as an intro, I weigh in at about 340. I am definetly not the poster boy for racing fitness. I was a little worried about what other racers would think. The voices in my mind were telling me that I didn't fit in here (just like going into a gym for the first time). What I found, was that I was accepted into that community and was suprised when several people came up and started conversations with me. It was great and I had a great time.
The greatest example of this came at a 4 miler I did in April. Due to a slight injury, I was not as prepared for the race as I wanted to be. I ended up finishing dead last. I had a police escort as I did the final half mile! As I approached the finish line, I can't tell you how many people gave me thumbs up and told me "way to go". Many people would look at that and say how embarrasing that would be. I say that even though I was the last person to cross the finish line... I still finished ahead of everyone in Central Ohio that wasn't in the race!
I will pass on a warning that was told to me about entering in your first competition. Beware.... they become addictive.
I'll second that. Last year as a joke I ran a 1.8 mile beer run in June after never running in my life. After that I ran in 13 5K races in 2006 and I have 1 5K this year, 14 more planned and I just finished a half marathon. By the way I still hate training but I love the races.

Those were some really great comments about participating in events. Back when I was over 400 lbs I participated in a walk in OKC called the Redbud Classic. The team I was walking with all wore the same shirts. On me, it looked like the symbol was a giant meatball. Boy was it strange. It was really hot that day. I hadn't worn enough sunscreen. I finished the walk, had fun, met some wonderful people and much like others have said....it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be.
I had conditioned myself and my thinking; however, to expect the worst. It was as though I was preparing myself or something. Shields Up, Mr. Sulu.

this is mentally/psychologically interesting to me - I have no interest in racing or participating in things like a 5K or a biking event or a swimming event - but ... now this has made me consider it for no reason other than it is part of the challenge - and that makes it more feasible in my mind -
Now is the time to be planning for your Challenge!
Have you designed or picked out a training program?
Do you have a plan for your Nutrition?
Have you thought about what your Personal Goal might be?
I already know some of you are looking at the Competition Goal and that is Rowdy Awesome.
Feel free to ask us any questions you might have. We want you to be successful. Wait, let me say this again for emphasis WE WANT YOU TO BE SUCCESSFUL!
If you are participating in the Challenge and need a nutrition plan and you are looking for something lower carb - a real meat and veggies kind of program with some variation about halfway through the Challenge - Send Adam Campbell a message and he will light a fire under you in the form of TNT.

Mobility and stretching are my biggest issues. I warm up okay, but I don't work on my long term issues as often as I should. That will be a big one for me. I don't want my shoulder to haunt me, and I'd like to get my regular DL up close to my Sumo DL. Squatting even half of my DL would be nice...
Today is my my bi-weekly progress stuff. Can I use that for the start on friday?? I really don't have time to do all my measurements in the morning before work.
Leigh, thank you so much for keeping things up to date for me. I was thinking I was going to have a lot of catch up to do. I am going to go and enjoy the rest of my evening thanks to you!!!
Glad to see more people are signing up. Challenge starts soon. Do you know of anyone who might benefit? Tell them to join or I will send my henchmen after them.....I'm global baby!!

So as it turns out, the Block system is too confusing. I will go back to the drawing board to try to come up with something else that would be fair without necessarily inducing overtraining.
I will try to come up with something simpler. 1 Block per meal (doesn't say much for those who eat "snacks" or have more feeding opportunities), 1 Block per Interval or Resistance workout, 1/2 block SS cardio???????
