LIVIN' LARGE: Minimizing yourself and maximizing your life! When you have over 100 pounds to lose it can seem impossible to get started in the right direction.
Okay, I wanna know how the hell you did that 'cause I cleared cookies, dumped history and tried it again after reading your post, and got the same results as last time. I entered "Wisconsin Athletic Club" (without quotes) and when I clicked on any of the sites that came up, the club was listed or mentioned but I didn't find any direct links or listing of the web address. The only one that was close was the 404 error message for the address "thewac.bz", which obviously is incorrect, though I suppose I could have tried substituting the .com suffix for .bz to see if that worked. Grrr, what did I miss?
I carefully selected the name of the club, hit ctrl-c. Opened google, selected the search bar and hit ctrl-v and hit enter.
Not sure I used quotes at work, but I may have...
Oh well

You know those are the first before and after pics I have ever seen of you Mahler. Nice work man! You are an inspiration to us all! (DUH!)
Og.
Og,
You know, I think you are right. I don't think I have ever posted a "before" pic. I had to scan this one from a snapshot that a friend took. Now you guys all know my terrible secret.

After years of yo-yo'ing, all the way back to when I was 12 years old, I maxed out around 235# (I'm 5'11") after Thanksgiving 2001. I was on medication for early onset high blood pressure at age 35. I started dieting in December of 2001 and then added weight training plus some treadmilling in late January 2002. I stumbled onto the Men's Health forums around March or April of 2002, which helped me tremendously with my weight training plans and "clean" eating. By Summer of 2002, I was down to the low 180's. In the Fall of 2002, I started long distance running regularly in addition to weight training and have kept up both since then. I started entering races in the Fall of 2004 and ran my first marathon in Feb. 2005, and since that time I have periodized emphasis on running or weight training. My lowest weight has been around 172# - a 60 pound loss. Right now I am up around 183# while emphasizing strength training.
My biggest motivators to keep it up are health reasons, the personal challenges/competitive aspects of running faster and/or getting stronger, and of course not looking like fatso anymore. This forum has helped me tremendously, and the people here are inspiring and excellent motivators. If you keep it up, eating healthy and exercising becomes a habit and not a chore. Keep it up!!!
so whats the connection with jpfitness and the mens health forums? i've never heard of them, but it seems like a lot of you made it here after there.
JP (Jean-Paul) was a member of Men's Health, didn't like the way the forums were administers and proctored, started JPFitness forums, many migrated over and haven't looked back.
I still go back occasionally, but recently they added a five weeks forum that is kind of attracting a strange crowd, so my visits are short.
December 2003 I was 252lbs December 2006 I was 175lbs and 9.5% body fat.
Currently bulking and at 199lbs and aiming to cut back to 189lbs alls going to plan and body fat currently sitting at 15% body fat but shall soon see the back of that by end of September.
Motivation? Knowing you are in control of your body helps you focus on so many other areas of your life too

There is your problem. Try with the quotes. It was the first result for me.
Okay, tried it this way and like you said, it was the first one up. Still, one would think it would have been at least somewhere on the first ten pages when I tried it previously without the quotes. Sheesh.
Anyway, back to the real topic. Wow, great job, all you folks who posted pics, and especially you Ogedai. Big change. I'd like to see some more of these before and after shots of "big losers", you folks deserve to bang your own drum a bit (or is that toot your own horn, I forget).
I don't know about everyone, but I know when I started threads like this were highly motivational. You had heard stories about people who lost a tonne of weight, but to actually interact with them and see what they did to learn from them was monumental.
I am personally proud to be part of this community and hope all of us offer some motivation to others on this board.
Thanks to everyone.
I agree with you totally. When I saw that Bluto from Animal house was able to slim down I knew that I could do it as well.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words and continued support. Reading about everyones day to day trials and tribulations in this forum does help keep you on the path.

Well...I can tell the last three pics are the same guy by the tattoo, but there's too much of a change for me to draw a connection between the first pic and the last.
And John (Mahler)! You and I have been speaking for years, yet I never knew of the "dirty secret." What an amazing transition you've made, both inside and out. I can honestly say I'm even more impressed with your aquired dedication to fitness and nutrition than I am your physical progess. Amazing stuff, man!
And BFG, I have to give you props. What an unbelievable transformation!
I myself am one who will take inspiration from this thread. After being 172, 8% BF about 2 1/2 years ago, I've spiked to about 200, 18% BF since the birth of my son. It's time to take some responsibility for my decisions, and reclaim my body.
I had lunch with an old friend last week, Mr. Alan Canne, or Colonel to all of you ol' MH guys. As we shook hands when we left, he said "No offense buddy, but you have gained some wieght." It hit home....hard.
After a few weeks of clean eating, the Velocity diet starts. Wish me luck.

Mike,
It's never been a secret. I have always told the story, but I think this is a case where a picture is worth a thousand words. Until this thread, it never dawned on me that I had never posted anything like a before and after. Whenever I start to lag behind, I can always look at that pic and there is no turning back. Good luck with rekindling your zeal. Alan is a good man and his words must have rung true. So, just do it.
JOHN

Now starting the big bad cut dropped a huge drop in cals this week stomach is in shock! My fault as overfed myself up to 3800 last week to get over the 200lb mark and did it. Now down to 1900 cals arggggggg am eating cardboard, body will adjust by the weekend tho and no more booze now for 6 weeks. Final body fat came in slightly higher than I wanted at 16 1/2% puling back to get to sub 12%

Alright, got fat in high school (according to my friends). Lost a bunch of weight, down to about 170 by my senior year. That's when i started lifting. I got serious a year or two ago, and started putting on the weight. From about a year ago:
Bluto (John Blushi) died of a speedball overdose. You don't want to do that as well.:p
Thanks for catching that, Belushi's weight loss program though succesful not very healthy. Have you eaten at Libby Montana's yet? It is near Cedarburg and the guy who played Niedermeyer owns it and works there regularly.

No, I didn't know that. So he gave up on acting? Wasn't he the ROTC cadet in the movie?

He still acts and does other odd things, in fact if you listen to the local radio in the AM he does DVD reviews on 102.9. Most recently he has done some play acting and played a reoccuring role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was the ROTC cadet in the movie and he lampooned that role as a dad in a Twisted Sister video a few years later.

Whenever I want to scare myself, I go back and look at my Driver's License photo from 2001. This was one of the key things that made me realize that I was jeopardizing my health:
versus a photo from March of this year taken toward the end of a 15K when I was wiped out - LOL!
