Default Larger Sized Knee Braces

I wasn't entirely sure that this doesn't belong under the Rehab and Injuries topic...but it's specific to someone who has larger legs/knees...

I like many people my size have some knee problems, and am working around them. Mine are largely due to my former trainer deciding that it was a good idea to let a newbie, 300+ pound woman do 60lb squats.

Long story short I am trying to find a really good knee brace that will help me stabilize my knee. I am not doing any squatting or anything of that nature right now, but when walking on a treadmill (walking at all) or when I'm on the spin bike I feel like I need some extra support.

Does anyone know if there is a specific brand that runs larger sizes? Or does anyone use knee braces and could maybe point me in the right direction?

There are lots of braces out there, I recently purchased a few, but they don't seem to really work for me...they roll down to the knee cap and generally don't work well. We measured my knee and it's about 23'.

Just thought I would put it out there! Thank you!

My husband got one of the ones that's a small band, maybe an inch thick, with a portion that bumps out to put pressure where it's needed... I see a lot of people using them. I'm not sure if it would help or if you're wanting a more sleeve-like thing...

He also had a thigh wrap from when he tore his quad, and he has huge legs. So, when he gets back I'll check with him to find out the brand. I think for the most part we wind up going to med supply places because they carry larger sizes... however, we've gotten lucky at Walgreens sometimes. I would guess something that actually closes (velcro) and is adjustable top v. bottom would be more helpful than just one of those sleeve things.

I'll at least get back to you on the brand we had. I can't remember off the top of my head.

Not a problem. Apparently, it was Futuro brand. We also had to get a back brace for him at some point and they had his size, and that's something I found at Walgreens. The thigh wrap was what we had to get at a med supply place, so if all else fails something like that should do you ok. I've had knee braces from them that are adjustable, top and bottom velcro and then a third adjustable section over the knee cap, but it was stiff and not something to run in, so likely you won't need something that reinforced.

You can find what there is out there on their web site and then look around to see who has it. Good luck.

btw... your jewelry rocks. I might have to get me some of that.

Braces are sometimes used in our rehab unit at the hospital. They come in various sizes, types, etcyou just have to order it. I will try to get the name of their catalog, products etc and send it to you to see if that will help....
