I haven't got to the "kept off" part yet but I've lost about 50 pounds since January when I got a nasty wake up call about my skyrocketing blood pressure.
I started off not trying to lose weight at all but just trying to improve my diet to get the blood pressure down. (I cut out a lot of sodium and started the DASH diet to lower the blood pressure.) Then I started adding in exercise (but still without a goal to lose weight).
It actually freaked me out quite a bit when I started to lose weight because I was not ready for it, but then gradually losing weight became a conscious goal.
Scale-weight is still not my primary goal since I'd be more than happy to keep adding more muscle, and I care more about how I feel and what I can
DO then about what look I have. Still, I'm pretty dam proud of what I've done so far... just got to keep on working.
