That is good that you went to the doctor. The physiotherapist will do an examination to see if you have any bio mechanical issues which could help to identify the problem. Even if the physiotherapist doesn't find anything they will prescribe some exercises and give you advice on what to do.
The bad news is that x-rays don't always show a problem even though one may exist. I don't know if you read my thread or not, but the doctors were never really able to figure out what was going on. The arthrogram I had is pretty much the best scan they can do and it came back pretty much negative. The next step was exploratory surgery. Given that my pain was very minor by the time we did the scans my doctor didn't thank my issue warranted taking the risk involved with exploratory surgery. I agreed.
Ultimately rest seemed to cure my problem. I probably took 2 months off with no lifting at all, and then another 5 months of were I only lifted one day a week, infact I'm just now starting to resume a normal lifting schedule.
I should make the point that in all likely hood your problem is more than likely different from mine. The exercises the physiotherapist subscribes may take care of your problem.
Example, Several years ago I hurt my back at UPS. I felt severe pain and had a hard time getting out of bed even. There doctors said I had a back strain. I was really surprised that was all it was given the amount of pain I experienced. I continued to have minor pain in the area for some time. It wasn't constant by any means, just every now in then I would move a certain way and it would set it off. I decided to start doing squats with light weight. I have not had any back pain since I started doing squats.
Keep in mind, I can really only tell you about my experience. I'm not a professional in this area, but there are some people such as Bill Hartman that our professional and can give you better than I can.
Good Luck, and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
