I am hurting all over today. I was in a car accident yesterday. A young guy driving a toyota truck didn't slow down for his red light and plowed right into my minivan. My van was smashed on 3 sides... The impact point, the back (somehow) was smashed in, and the front, because the impact sent my van sailing across a lane into a yard of a brick building, taking out a solid sign and nearly hitting the house itself. My legs are pretty bruised up and my whole body aches right now. Here's the van from the side that got hit:
I was alone in the car, on my way to pick up my wife and sick daughter to take them to our pediatrician's office. Thank god no one was in the car with me. The passenger would have been hospitalized or killed. I was lucky to come out alive. You have to see how far I was thrown to really appreciate it. That picture just doesn't do the accident justice. Here is the truck that hit me:
Nothing broken on me... Probably would have broken my right leg if I didn't work out regularly. Reason # 43 for why you should work out regularly and eat healthy. Strong bones and support tissue. I'll post some pics of my bruises later. I hurt in areas I didn't even know existed. My entire spine feels like it was ripped from my body forcibly, and then sown back to my body with a broken bottle at the end of a garden hose for needle and thread.
The poor guy that hit me was ashen. I can understand. I would be the same way if I had hit someone like that. If I hadn't been in shock and lots of pain I would have felt sorry for him. Luckily I had a couple of witnesses who ran out to see if we were okay. The other people at the intersection wouldn't stop though (fuckers!). I stumbled out of the van and tried to wave some of them down, and they looked away in shame and drove off. Spineless sheep. Their very existence is obviously so pathetic that it is punishment in and of itself.
Just so you all know though... I'm okay. Just a bit banged up, but still kickin'.

Holy hell JP, That's awful. I'm glad you are for the most part A-OK and get over your soreness in a few days.
Also a very good thing the wife and kids weren't involved.

Yeah, I'm really thankful none of my kids were in the car. I would not have been rational if one of them had been hurt. Not that the guy intended to hit me. He just wasn't paying attention. But hurt one of my children and there will be hell to pay!

Damn, that's awful! Well, it's really bad. It would have been awful if you had been seriously injured.
When I totalled my last car, I wasn't hurt either, but man the shock of it left me spacy for a couple days.
Rest up, mon capitaine!

JP did you go to the hospitial? If you didnt you should!!! My mom was involved in a car accident and she didnt go to the hospitial right away untill i forced her to go and it was 3 weeks later. My mom had spinal injury, make sure you get that checked out right away! the longer you delay the worse it will get and you will be stuck with the bill.
Now she doesnt have complete control of her left hand and her face goes numb from time to time. Im glad that you were able to walk away fine, and that your family wasnt in the vehicle.
oh yes WHERE YOU WEARING YOUR SEAT BELT?
just wondering

Thanks guys. I appreciate your concern. The thing that sucks... I really liked that van! It was a Town and Country Limited with heated leather bucket seats, 10 speaker Infinity sound system, built in kid seats, etc, etc.
Probably can't afford to replace it. You never get your value out of cars like that when you get hit.

Yes, Mom -er- Chera... I was wearing my seat belt!
I went to the ER to get checked out. They didn't do any Xrays or anything. Not that I think anything is broken. My entire spine from the base of my skull to my tail bone is hurting though.

Isn't that the truth? Glad to see that it wasn't worse than it was. I had the same thing happen a month ago. I got run into on an icy patch on the interstate. It was 10 degrees and we had to wait 1 1/2 hours for a state trooper to show up. We had traffic backed up for miles and not the first person stopped during that time. I realize that stopping could be dangerous, but the damage looked serious. If I had come up on it, I would have at least stopped to see if everybody was Ok.

JP - sorry to hear about the accident, but very happy that you walked away and no one else was in the vehicle. Take it easy and rest up. unfortunately the next few days will probably hurt even more than yesterday.

1. Your kids were not in the van
2. Your wife was not in the van
3. You're a healthy guy who works out
4. You were not hurt
5. You got rid of a mini van
Sounds to me like you had a very lucky day. I am so glad the family was not with you! Hope your bruises and hurts heal quickly (maybe you and Becka can have a "Bruised Squish" contest....). Hang in there brother.

I'm glad your okay JP. If it were me, I'd get x-rays. From someone who has spine issues that come and go, I know what it can be like a year later to find out you did a bad thing. Get it checked out, health and fitness are your livelyhood.

Holy Crap, JP!!! Very glad to hear that you are mostly okay and your wife and kids weren't involved. I don't know what I'd do if something were to happen to mine!

Make sure you get a follow up exam. Sometimes things aren't picked up int the ER that a neurologist or other specialist could pick up. Go to your family doctor and get a referral if necessary.
