Unhappy

I've been having AC joint issues for 6 months now...no upper body work..have had 3 cortisone shots and rest..none of which worked. So it's off to surgery to remove part of the clavicle. Anyone else had this done? I'm starting to get nervous. I only slept 2 hours last night I have complete faith in my surgeon, so I'm not necessarily worried about the actual surgery. It's the recovery I'm not looking forward to. Still no upper body work for 3 more months..which I will have to just deal with so I can get back to training full force. I've read there is a lot of success with the surgery...anyone have personal experience with it?

A couple guys here have had it. I know Bond007 (Jamie) has had it on both shoulders. If you search around both the training and this subforum you should find a ton of awesome posts between Bill Hartman and Bond.

Good Luck! Laying off lifting would suck.

Actually JP has had a Mumford procedure (distal clavicle resection) done on one or both of his shoulders. The result is typically pretty good.

Just take your time coming back.

I've suffered from Shoulder Impingement Syndrome. My doc went in an removed bone from my acromion in both shoulders. You'll really be fine, just be careful NOT to push getting abck into upper body lfiting and don't be surprised if you're still not doing any upper body work even in 3 months. Regaining full range of motion without pain or discomfort should be first on your priority list. Then, and only then, should you start returning to upper body lifting and even then, you need to be smart about how and what you lift.

Bill Hartman is a GREAT asset for information about shoulder rehab exercises. Listen to him and ask his advice.

Thank you. I figured it would be slow going getting back into lifting . I wish it wasn't, but not much I can do I guess. I don't want to end up making it worse.
As I recover, I'm sure I'll be asking for advice. My doc is great too...he knows I lift and is into lifting himself so it helps having him there for me. Good to know people here have had success with it.

Ok, I know I was getting nervous, but now I'm just plain mad They called and cancelled the surgery for tomorrow....grrrrr....so now I have to wait to reschedule. I'm just mad cause of everything I had to rearrange around it, and I will have to rearrange everything again. I love my doc...I think he's great, but damnit!! I wanted this over with so I could recover and get back, and now I just have to wait

(I guess I shouldn't only think about myself..I do hope everything is okay with the doc.)
