Send her to a podiatrist or an orthodpod. Use my most recent experience as a cautionary tale: While on vacation last week, I woke up with really bad pain in my ankle. It was hard to walk and felt like I had a tear in my achilles tendon. I've had enough ankle and feet issues that I would have bet the house on it (I've had as bad as a broken heelbone - something the docs say is very very hard to do). Went to the podiatrist yesterday and he said it wasn't the achilles, but rather the PT tendon. Anyway, there are 3 or 4 tendons in there, plus a whole lot of other connective tissue and cartilage, which I guess is why feet have their own specialists. If it has been lingering for more than a week or two and doesn't get better with RICE and NSAIDs, have her go see a professional. Your ability to walk isn't something to mess around with. Good luck.
