I injured my knee, playing football, last night. X-rays showed no serious damage, but I could not support my weight on it. The doctor thinks it is a slightly strained ligament and possibly some bruising under the kneecap. He gave me crutches and told me to gradually try to "wean" myself off of them over the next few days.

This morning, the knee was pretty tight, but as the day has progressed I've been able to support more weight, and limp a few steps here and there without the crutches (still using the crutches for most of my getting around).

Are there any exercises that I could do to accelerate the healing process, or, at the very least, help keep it loose?
