I'm wondering if a sharp pain that I'm feeling with a new stretch that I'm doing is an indication of something that needs to be fixed and how to fix it.

The stretch is described as follows:

1)lay on your back, knees bent and feet flat on ground
2) Cross one leg over the other
3) Lower the knee of the leg that was crossed towards the opposite side, using the crossed leg as weight/leverage.

For one leg, it feels like a normal stretch. For the other leg, it a pain is felt all down the leg when a certain point in the stretch is reached (not as a result of over stretching).

Last summer I had ART for my lower back. In December I pinched a nerve in my back playing volleyball. Both problems were treated and no longer affect me. Having said that, I'm now ultra proactive in trying to prevent future injuries.

If this is a red flag let me know. If so, any course of action that you'd recommend for dealing with it?

Cheers
Jim

Any feelings of numbness into your leg/foot/toes? Feelings of weakness?

No numbness or other symptoms that I'm aware of. Just the sharpness up from the glutes down the leg when I do that stretch.

I was going to say sciatic nerve irritation, but it doesn't seem to fit. But it's hard to say without being there. If it's really worrying you, get it checked out.

Is this stretch the only time you experience the pain?
