i am hoping to avoid shoulder surgery, but i keep getting frustrated with my progress. does shoulder surgery typically stop the problem once and for all?

i have had multiple doctor appointments, 2 mri's, rehab with a therapist, cortisone shot, and i do my exercises and stretches religously and frequently ice my shoulder. is there anything i am missing, perhaps ART?

thanks.

Personally I would exhaust every possible avenue before surgery. Surgery is no guarantee of anything.

ART or some other form of soft-tissue work may be beneficial if it is simply impingement. There should be a bunch of practitioners in NY/NJ. Ming Chew, PT comes to mind in NYC. There are also several ART instructors in NJ.

Even with ART you'll still need to do strengthening to stabilize the GH joint.

Then again, I'm due for some vacation time soon. Perhaps an all expense paid vacation to the NY area (if you're close to the city) is an option.

Thanks for the response Bill. I agree that surgery should be my last resort. I'm just trying to figure out if there is any thing else I can do, and I am starting to think that there isn't. I'll continue with my exercises and just hope that there is some improvement.

By the way, I do live close to the city. Unfortuneately on a police man's salary I can't afford to fly anyone. Thanks again!

Heh, yeah, I'm a prime example that surgery doesn't give you any kinds of guarantees. UGH!

Good luck, bro!

No surgery here. Lots of work, rehab, ART, and rest have helped me tremendously. I just wish the other shoulder which I separated felt as good.
