I broke my tibia and fibula pretty badly (both almost came through the skin and my lower leg was bent at about 30 degrees). I had surgery about 8 months ago and I'm still having pain when I run. Any suggestions? I realize the rehab is slow. Does anyone know of a really good brace for the lower leg/knee?

What's your reason for wanting to brace the tib/fib?

just because there's still pain in my shin. I have pins just above my ankle and below my knee that hold a steel rod in place that's inside my tibia. It's still bruised (probably always will be). I guess I'm just wanting something that will give me more support for the leg and muscle. It's a psychological thing too, ya know?

Bracing is not going to help alleviate the pain in your shin. Nor is it likely to give you any support in terms of adding strength to the tib/fib complex. Are you still having follow-ups with your surgeon?

I had follow ups and went through 6 weeks of rehab at a clinic, but now I only see the doctor if I feel the need. I guess it's just been frustrating (and really humbling) to go from being as quick and fast as I was to now limping every time I run. I'm sure it's just part of rehab, but how long do these things usually take? Can you suggest any good exercises for the front of my shin? I do calf raises, lunges, and leg press and I try to do flexibility things for my ankle. I've been able to play soccer on it, so that's helped quite a bit actually. Thanks for your replies.
