I have a strange injury question and would be happy if someone could comment/offer some advice...

My hamstring/glute & heel (same leg) have been very sensitive to touch. A gentle touch feels something similar to chewing aluminum foil with cavities(no I haven't done this lately ). Since yesterday, I've also noticed that if I put all my weight on my heel, pain shoots up my ankle and leg. (ok to walk on --and I ran on it today, just hurts if I shift my weight to this side).

A friend suggested that I might have a pinched nerve. However, it just dawned on me that last week I twisted my ankle while running (ran sideways on it). I said ouch, kept running, and forgot about it. I don't notice any swelling and there is no bruising...could it be a sprain? How would I know if the hamstring and ankle pains are related? Should I do something other than ice it? The pinched nerve theory made sense to me due to the sensitivity, but am not sure if it's related to my ankle/heel pain.

Any advice would be appreciated. Obviously it's not debilitating, but am running a race in a couple of weeks and I don't want this to get in the way of my training. Thanks!!

Sit tall in a chair and fully extend the painful side leg out in front of you. Is it painful? If yes, the heel, hamstring and butt pain may be related. No good way to give a clear cut diagnosis here. If it persists, see your doc. You may have multiple overuse injuries.

Thanks Bill. It wasn't painful to stretch out my leg. I took Monday off because I could feel the pain shooting up my heel to my ankle and then my hamstring would do the same thing, even sitting. Yesterday was much better but JP convinced me to take another day off after reading your post . Is there a way I could tell if it was a nerve vs muscle pain?
