I sprained the AC joint in my shoulder playing rugby this weekend. My doc told me I need to sit out 2-3 weeks. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this injury and how long it took them to get back to normal. And what kind of results should I expect when I return to the weight room?

Healing time is directly dependent on the severity of the injury itself. Separation of the joint is obviously more severe whereas a grade one sprain is a boo-boo on the severity scale. If you have any instability (can you move your collar bone up and down like a piano key at the AC joint?)you can expect some wear and tear over time. 2-3 weeks is no big deal. Let things heal and then return to activities progressively. Make sure you regain any lost range of motion and don't overload too soon.

When you come back...If you like power clean/snatch or perform any explosive pulls you'll want to make sure to let the weights drop to floor after each rep rather than catch them in the hang position.
