Red face

I was diagnosed with tendonitis in my left shoulder in June. Ive been to physio weekly ever since. I am (was) doing a strength routine from Lou's Home Workout Bible. The therapist said if the exercises didn't hurt, that I could continue. I recently tweaked my shoulder again at work. Now it hurts to bench again so I've stopped. I've been doing all the stretches and the rotator cuff exercise that she gave me. And now my other shoulder is acting up, though not as bad and that is why I stopped. I'm planning to take a month off! Was it because I used too much load (I am impatient, and added weight substantially). It's really frustrating 'cause the shoulder felt like it really was getting stronger. I see the therapist again next week, but the insurance runs out soon, so I'll only be able to afford a monthly visit. Is anyone familiar with Core Performance? With light weights, could that be an alternative. I really liked the strength routine, and would get back to it only when I'm sure the shoulder(s) are better. I know it's long- winded and I appreciate the help/advice.

Maybe try a version of what I've been doing: I'm doing a 4 -day routine, including IK's Limping, and then one day hitting my core, and another doing moderate but challenging back/chest/tris/bis work. That way you're not overtaxing your shoulders, but you're not losing (probably gaining) in your legs and core.

Yeah. I might keep my lower body routine as it is, and set up some arm work. Maybe bench with some light dumbs. I'm do for a week off any way. I'm doing the rotator cuff exercise evry other day.

other old guy,
i have a bum shoulder as well. the prehab section is excellent. it has exercises designed to strengthen you rotator cuff and scapular muscles - thus making your shoulder more stable...what i have done is incorporated my own strength section, because i have to avoid pushing movements for a while...good luck, and let me know how you make out.

by the way, keep up the shoulder posts. i am always trying to educate myself on the shoulder. (i have an impingement)

Here are two more article links for you -- these have helped me a ton as I've had to correct and rebuild the entire balance and structure of my shoulders. I was the typical guy with strong internal rotators and weak external rotators... not good for a baseball player who pitches occasionally.

Thanks, Jax and Red Lefty. They are some of the best articles I've read on the subject. I couldn't even get that info out of my P.T.

You might be interested in my experience. I am fifty-nine years old. I have had a small problem with my right shoulder for years. It was never intense, but I got a slight twinge anytime I reached up or up and over. For instance, pulling my seat belt down or raising my hand straight up. The major impact was that I couldn't lift to my capabilities in exercises that involved a movement over my head. Military press, for example.

I have used a regime of small dumbbells in the past, with mixed results. Recently I worked myself to the point that I had the same problem in my left shoulder as well.

I have been taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin for a couple of months and the problem went away completely. It took three or four weeks of these capsules twice a day to see any relief.

I have no idea, of course, whether this would help anyone here. However, I suggest you try it, if other things have not been effective.
