Last week I tried some close-grip benching and some reverse-grip benching to take the stress from my aching shoulders. It felt ok while I was doing them, but the next day I was a mess.

Anyway, I'd like to at least keep my tris up to par while I avoid the pressing movements, and I was wondering if kickbacks and pressdowns seem like safe ways to go (as far as shoulder involvement).

Thanks-

Should be fine depending on loads.

from your experiences with a shoulder problem, do you do any direct shoulder work? i am in a similar situation, and i'm avoiding all kinds of presses. i was curious if you knew of any shoulder exercises that might be safe to try. ( i already do rotator cuff exercises)

thanks.

Aren't you doing rotator cuff exercises?? I do external rotation, lateral raise and front raise with 5lbs or less. That's what the physio said to do. That and Ice 2 times/day.

I'm not doing any shoulder work just yet. This will be my second week off from that. Just rotator cuff work.

When I do get back into it (probably next week) I'll try out OOG's neutral-grip DB press idea and see how that feels.
