Ok, I am so sick of having these damn shin splints I cant stand it.. I have had them for a year now, off and on, every time I get them healed up and start to run again they come back...

I bought good shoes, I ice my shins after running, I take Ibuprophen.. This time they came back after my squat day, I didnt even have to run..

Help.....

I would say its the shoes. Just because they are good shoes doesn't mean they are the right shoes for you.

Make sure they are not too snug or too tight. Good arches are important as well.

I had them, bought new shoes and changed the arches and haven't looked back since.

And stretch as well. But I am sure you know that

aside from getting shoes with a good support system make sure that it has good shock absorbancy as well. you want that shock to be dispersed as good as possible.
a good layer of cushion won't hurt either.

and stretch out. doing some leg strength training will actually help you. ie. squats and deadlifts.

i remember high school i used to get shin splints and i just lifted after a while they went away since my muscles were stronger from lifting.

If you search for "shin splints" on this forum you'll find that it has been discussed on several occasion with some good info being passed on.

Most often it's a case of too much too soon. First, heal up. Some form of soft-tissue treatment (Active release, ASTM, massage) can be very helpful in relieving symptoms. Ice will help control pain. Stretch may help some as well. Perform calf stretching with the knee bent to emphasize the deep posterior compartment.

Next think progressively on your return to activities that seem to aggrevate the pain. Not everyone is prepared to run and jump or squat.
