I am still having minor shoulder pain. I have read the posts here, but I thought there was one in which Bond or Bill had an entire list of "prehab" stretches and exercises that would increase flexibility.

I tried the hand over the back stretch and couldn't touch fingers, so obviously there is some limited ROM there. I also saw Bill's suggestion in one of the shoulder threads to use a towel and pull slowly to increase ROM...

Questions:
1) Does anybody have the link or list of exercises for increasing shoulder ROM?
2) Are there other things I could/should be doing and/or testing?

Note: The pain is in the front of the shoulder, on the top (think: Anterior Deltoid).

Thanks, in advance, for your wisdom, help and (probable) ridicule....

My impingement pain would originate from either the front of the shoulder and slightly on top or from the very outside "point" of the shoulder. The pain would also radiate up my neck and down my arm to the elbow. At it's worst, it would ache 24/7/365. But, I'd get sharp pains when raising my arm to shoulder height or higher in any direction.

As far as stretches go, the towel stretch is a great one. I'm doing it now to regain full ROM. As far as strengthening my shoulder, this is the "routine" Bill worked out for me to rebuild scapular strength.

My doc also has me taking 2 Aleve twice daily for the inflammation. By doing that, you're simply taking prescription strength naproxen.

Do you do these before, after or instead of working out?

So far, my recovery is coming along very nicely. I have almost no pain during the day and my ROM 100%, although it's not totally painfree yet. But, the pain that I do have in full ROM is easily bareable, not like before the surgery, or even this time after the first surgery. Currently, I'm only doing stretching exercises 2x daily. I'll stand in the shower for about 10 minutes and let piping hot water wash over my shoulder, then do my exercises, and sometimes I'll ice my shoulder down afterwards. I only use the ice when the exercises are unusually painful, which is happening less and less. I'm also taking 2 Aleve 2x daily for inflammation.

Sleeping is a completely different matter, though. I can normally fall asleep before my shoulder starts to ache. When I move during the night and aggravate the shoulder, I normally wake up. It takes me a little while then to get comfortable enough to fall back to sleep. This happens about 2-3 times every night. I've found that as long as I sleep with three pillows: one supporting my upper shoulders, one placed on top of that pillow for my head and the last pillow wedged under my left shoulder only that I have everything in a decent position to avoid any pain. Trust me, it's a balancing act!!!

As far as strengthening goes, I'm only going to do those exercises that I outlined in the other thread. I'm not going to do any other strength training for my shoulders. I believe I can do some back work, biceps, very light triceps and definitely legs and abs. I'll most likely have to avoid chest and definitely shoulder work for the time being until I'm painfree. Even then, I'm probably not going to do any overhead movements for a long time, if ever again.

A lot of what you can do depends on your pain. If a move hurts, don't do it. Also, be very careful with increasing weights too fast. It will take time for the joint and tissue to recover.

Red face

I've got a doctors appointment this Thursday (6/10) for my shoulders. I have no idea what is wrong other then at night they stiffen up and ache like it's legal. There's no pain when I work out, nor most of the day...but once I get into bed, it's not fifteen minutes and here comes the pain.
Icing them just before bed helps delay the ache and I take Aleve once a day.

I hate to admit it but they have been "acting" this way for quite some time, well over a year.
Guess I'll find out something soon enough....
