I am currently suffering from a slipped disk. C8 impingement with tell tale numbness and pain down my left arm. Pain has diminished from a 9 to a 2 and I want to get back to the weight room. I was told that it may not be wise to do barbell squats due to pressure on neck. I'm thinking I could get away with dumbbell squats or front squats and maybe hack squats. What do you think? Should I be working out with pain at two. Carrying some things seems to give relief as it provides traction.

Cervical disc herniations aren't too pleasant. I've had prblems on and off at C4-5 (right) and C5-6 (left). I've been fortunate in that I don't actually get very much neck pain. Holding off of squats for a while isn't a bad idea, but , to be honest, I continue to do squats if they don't worsen my symptoms. When they (or any other exercise) cause worsening of my symptoms, I lay off for a bit.

Cool

Well the joint was jumpin'
Maybe i got too high
And the beat was familiar
My feet were too sly

I tried to hustle
I tried to bump
I was always steppin'
When it was time to jump

My baby said quit
I told her i wouldn't
If she asked me today
I'd say i couldn't

Slipped my disco--he slipped his disco
Slipped my disco when i was dancing with you, baby

I begin to wonder
Is it worth the pain
Get so twisted
That you wind up lame
Maybe it's my technique
Or is it my shoes
Just another white boy
With the disco blues

Sometimes my body does
Things that my brain don't understand
I'm not the man i was
But my feet still think i am

And the doctor's busy
He's checking me out
He says i'm crazy
To jump and shout

I said, one more number doc,
Just one more tune
Let me out of this emergency room--and i

Slipped my disco--he slipped his disco
Slipped my disco when i was dancing with you, baby

I begin to wonder
Is it worth the pain
Get so twisted
That you wind up lame
Maybe it's my technique
Or is it my shoes
Just another white boy
With the disco blues
