I've got this _strange_ knee pain four days after returning from the slopes.

I'm a high level intermediate skier that has no problem on expert only terrain, but am still no pro. I did quite a few mogul runs and did wonderfuly due to the power block I did a month before the trip.

This morning, after walking up the stairs, I reach down to the floor and the top/middle of my knee cap feels like it's being pressed on from the inside. WHAT IS UP? I haven't been lifting since a few days before the trip.

Here's a timeline in case all of this rambling is too vague:

- 3 days before trip: last workout
- ski trip for four days
- 4 days after trip: sudden knee pain.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a bit of patellar tendonitis/tendonosis or even patello-femoral pain.

What did you power program consist of prior to skiing? Any plyos or altitude drops?

Moguls require a great deal of force absorbtion which is done via the tendon as the muscle contracts eccentrically/isometrically. This can wear on the musculotendinous juntion and where it attaches to the knee cap. It's not unusual for something like this to show up after the fact.

My power program was from Christian T's new book, it included 3x10 depth jumps twice a week.

Other than that, it included power snatches, power cleans, overspeed bench + row + squat + good mornings, isos, and some maint strength and hypertrophy work.

Good news: the pain went as quickly as it came.

Thanks for the reply.
