I am joining a gym and I need some helpful advice. I had a little over 60% of my L5 disc removed back in August. I need to start to get my back stronger and try to get some of my flexibility back so I can try to play some golf this summer. Does any one know of some things I can do in the gym to start off in the right direction. I have not worked out in years but I was in OK shape before the surgery, but now I have put on some weight around the gut. I plan on doing alot of swimming though.

Thanks in advance for your time in responding...

What "impairments" have you experienced since your back surgery? And what's left in the 40% of your disc? Do you get pain still, and when?

Swimming is likely going to be a good candidate for physical activity because of its "supported" nature, and of course, the generic advice of "slow progression starting with range of motion activity" is probably applicable.
