Hello,

It's been 3 years since I injured my knee playing soccer. Long story short, I tore all ligaments and partially my ACL. I also completely tore my patellar tendon which also somehow ripped out a chunk of bone in the process and my thigh muscle came unattached. I have recovered about 80-85 percent of my ability to bend my leg but I fear I have not done enough to strengthen things - that is after after an initial 2 months in bed and 7 months of intense physiotherapy. I now also have a foot-long scar down the front of my leg.

Just wondering if anyone has suffered similar knee damage and what their experience was in rehabing and dealing with permanent physical limitations?

K.

I think it's important to remember that you are recovering from pretty much a near catastrophic injury. Rupturing the patellar tendon on both sides of the knee cap AND the cruicate ligaments is major. Recovering your range of motion and strength is going to take a long time. Even individuals who have ruptured their ACL and nothing else can take up to one or two years to return to their previous state of ROM And strength, depending on their motivation and "regenerative" capabilities.

You still have a ways to go. Your injury won't be a permanent disability. You just have to keep on chugging. Recovery of your range of motion and progressive strengthening will see you through.
