Guys, a friend of mine told me that after she does cardio, she occasionally (1 a month) gets a random chill and starts shivering.
She asked me what it was and I had no freaking clue to respond to that. Anyone have any possible explanation for getting random chills like that?
P.S. Shes not around any fans, nor is she going outside.

I'll hazard a guess based on my own experience.
Right afterwards? As in, within 5 mins after she stops running? Yeah, I'll occassionally get those after a tough spin class...as will others. It isn't that uncommon. Sometimes when we are working very hard, our bodies' temps go up and you've got a layer of sweat on your exposed skin. Then, if you cool down at the end of thr cardio (as you're supposed to), but are still sweating, and the room temp is relatively cool, the change in your body temp (lowering) plus the sweat, which conducts heat, results in the hairs on your arm standing up and an inadvertant chill. Sometimes, I can get two of these. No biggie. A way that we've found to counteract these is to wrap a towel around your shoulders right afterwards so that your body can cool down a little slower.
However, if she is having constant chills, that's different than what I'm describing. Shivering more than once or twice is also not what I've experienced either.

I shivered like an eskimo after running my first marathon and it was 70 degrees out. That why you see these guys wrapped in shiny tinfoil to warm up after running that far..In fact I get the chills from running more often than once a month, albeit usually in the summer. I think Kaiser is right on. Your body is so busy cooling itself off to ward off overheating that when you stop, the bod may still be in cool down mode..Of course, this isn't what you would call a very scientific response, however, I suppose the good news is that it is no big deal to get the chills..

quick recap of marathon
(i train with my dad who has run 30+)
Dad..slow down..stay with the 3:30 pace group..
Eric..no way old man, I feel great (mile 10) I'm going to catch the 3:15 pace group
Eric to mother at 18..Look mom, I almost caught the 3:00 pace group.
Mom: slow down honey, 20-26 can be brutal!
Eric: aw mom, shucks..its only 8 more miles..I can walk on my hands that far. I'm just shooting to go 3:07 to qualify for Boston!
Eric (Mile 22) I hate running.. this F*ing sucks..I don't even care if I finish..I can't even walk anymore
Dad @25 (with 3:30 pace group) Hey, fancy seeing you again...well, tootleoo..1 mile to go!
3:36 was my time..but I think I ran it about as badly as possible, and the pain was so bad..I fear running any longer than a half marathon!

So you're running about an 8:10-8:20 mile then. Not bad for keeping up that pace for 26.2.

Yeah, although it was really holding 7:30s and then a few 15 minute miles tossed in at the end. I ran an 87 minute half marathon so I had grandiose dreams of breaking, or coming close to, 3 hour marathon...but I realized what truly talented runners are when I tried it..
I didn't start running until college swimming ended..and I needed an outlet for my ADD and my restlessness..otherwise I would have ended up just causing hell in a chat room..or something..

Not just the Kenyans..
How about this Michigan guy:
He'd been 17th at the 2002 Boston Marathon in 2:15:17. Verran set a course record of 29:27 at the Detroit Turkey Trot 10K in November and was awarded first place at the Walt Disney World Half-Marathon in Orlando on January 11 when he and Hansons teammates Brian Sell and Nick Cordes finished together in 1:05:43. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Verran is a part-time physical therapist.
one of the guys in our running group is the head physical therapist at the hospital where Clint works..and of course they talk running. He trains at a 5 minute mile pace and runs an average of 120-150 miles a week!
Now that..is insane..but I started thinking..he can go out for an hour and a half run and do 18 miles! Maybe he isn't training as long as some of us slow guys!
