Question

About a year ago I had my appendix removed - decided I did not need it anymore due to the pain.

Since then I have gotten a little potbelly in the lower region of my abdomin that I can not seem to get rid of. I have been a fit person all my life and now this little belly has started to get me frustrated as I do a lot of cardio (30 minutes) prior to my weight lifting, and workout my abdominal muscles constantly. I know there must be some better abdominal exercises that I can do to help rid me of the flab I have just endoured. Any suggestions?

Just out of interest, did you have a laparoscopic appendectomy or an open appendectomy? More importantly, is the 'potbelly' near one of your incisions? Sometimes, one can develop an 'incisional hernia' after an operation. This refers to some of the abdominal contents poking through an incision. Anyhow, you should have your surgeon take a look at it--- he (or she) could assess this type of problem pretty quickly.

The surgury was open. The appendix did slightly rupture. The area around the incision is tough. My small potbelly is above the incision and is uniform across my abdomin. I think I just need to work at it harder and just want some advice for better lower abdominal fat burning exercises.

But, as a side bar, do you think that since the appendix being removed has slowed my metabolism?

The appendix being gone couldn't slow your metabolism down. It is a vestigal organ. It may have had some purpose during an earlier stage of human evolution, but now it just hangs there uselessly.

I can sort of relate. I had a hernia operation many years ago, and put on a little gut shortly after. I started focusing on ab strength after that and (at the time) and better nutrition and put on a nice little six-pack.
