Default Bent-knee deadlifts hurt -- Straight-legged Fine

In the area of the sit-bones (ischial) I feel a dull pain when doing bent-knee dead-lifts, etc. No problems with Straight-leg DL's. I assumed it would be a strain at the attachment point of the hamstring but I've been working on my tight hamstrings and have a great deal more flexibility and again straight-leg lifts are fine. Background: Competitive Tennis player with overuse flexion hip issues, really tight medius (stretch frequently) piriformis? and tight TFL/ITB , quads do a lot of work.

1. When did the pain begin?
two weeks ago

2. What were you doing at the time?
noticed it on deadlifts and good mornings

3. Where, anatomically, is the pain?
Sit bone (ischial?)

4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting?
I would describe it as aching.

5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions?
seems motion driven but if I sit too long...

6. What motions make your pain worse?

7. What, if anything, makes your pain better?
Don't do those exercised
8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body?
no
9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury?
Trying to train glutes to protect against repeated Quad/hamstring pulls.

10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences?
Trying to get my hips, core in shape to protect and repeated pulls everywhere off my hips.

11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how?
Shortened Iliopsoas led to quad and hamstring pulls every week.

12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period?
No, it is not getting worse (nor better).

Thanks for your time and suggestions!!!!!!

Hamstring pulls are often a function of lazy glutes.
How's your glute function?
Do you have a foam roller and/or lacrosse ball (or even a softball)?

Been working on strengthening glutes with those deadlifts and g.m.'s but g-medius is always tight with so much lateral movement in tennis... hip rotators seem to be culpable as well. Have had increased flexibility in hamstring so mot much problem there but could the glutes be pulling on the ischial rather than the hamstrings during bent-knee lifts?

PS.. Layed on a tennis ball tonight 4 glutes...

No, it's more likely that you were overusing your hamstrings with GMs and deads ... your glutes weren't doing their share of the work. It could be simply a case of walking before running. In other words, are you doing any gluteal activation work?

I'd try to get a softball in that spot deep up by your ischials. Might work better off a bench or a chair.
